PC14 / Managing and Maintaining PC's: A+ part 1

Final Project
Custom PC Build (50%)

DUE DATE

Session 20

OBJECTIVE

• Research and identify hardware components for a high-performance PC build

• Determine the suitability of components based on customer requirements
• Document the hardware specifications, prices, and sources for each component
• Provide the minimum correct assembly requirements for sensitive PC components
• Build and test the PC to verify its functionality

DESCRIPTION

The goal of this project is to research and identify hardware components that are suitable for
building a high-performance PC based on specific customer requirements. You will need to select
the most advanced and newer hardware components while keeping in mind the specific utility for
the PC. You will also need to document the hardware specifications, prices, and sources, as well
as provide the minimum correct assembly requirements for sensitive PC components.

INSTRUCTIONS

Part I: Research
Using the customer's specific requirements listed below, research and identify hardware components for
a high-performance PC build. You will need to record the following information for each component:
• Component name and brand
• Technical specifications
• Price
• Source

Customer Requirements:
• Budget: $2500
• Primary use: Video editing and graphic design
• Secondary use: Gaming
• Must have:
• 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD)
• 32GB DDR4 RAM
• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or higher graphics card
• 10th Gen Intel Core i9 processor or higher
• Liquid cooling system
• Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity

PC14 / Managing and Maintaining PC's: A+ part 1
• Mid-tower or Full-tower case
• Optional:
• Additional storage

Deliverables:
• A log of your activities, including configuration settings.
• A working desktop computer system with the following components:
• Motherboard
• 4 GB of RAM
• SATA hard drive
• Video card
• Keyboard and mouse
• DVD drive (added and configured)
• Sound card and speakers (added and configured)
• Wireless network adapter (added and configured)

Part II: Assembly

Using the hardware components identified in Part I, build the high-performance PC.

You will need to:

• Follow the minimum correct assembly requirements for sensitive PC components
• Verify the PC's functionality after assembly

Minimum Correct Assembly Requirements:

• Ensure proper grounding to avoid electrostatic discharge (ESD)
• Install the power supply unit (PSU)
• Install the motherboard
• Install the processor and cooling system
• Install the RAM
• Install the SSD and additional storage (if applicable)
• Install the graphics card
• Install the case fans
• Connect all necessary cables and wires

Deliverables:
• A report containing the following information:
• Specs and pricing of each component required to build a gaming PC within a budget of
$2500 (before taxes)
• Where the information was found
• Explanations for your choices
• Report cover with a title page

Part III: Testing

After completing the assembly, you will need to test the PC to verify its functionality. You should test the
following:
• Booting up and shutting down
• Loading the operating system (Windows 10)
• Connecting to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
• Running video editing and graphic design software
• Running demanding games

PC14 / Managing and Maintaining PC's: A+ part 1

MATERIALS REQUIRED To complete this project, you require:

• 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD)
• 32GB DDR4 RAM
• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or higher graphics card
• 10th Gen Intel Core i9 processor or higher
• Liquid cooling system
• Mid-tower or Full-tower case
• Additional storage (if applicable)
• Power supply unit (PSU)
• Motherboard
• Case fans
• Cables and wires
• Monitor
• Keyboard
• Mouse

Deliverables:
1. A written report outlining the minimum correct assembly requirements for sensitive PC
components such as the CPU, motherboard, RAM, and cooling system. The report should include
clear and concise instructions for handling these components and assembling them correctly to
avoid damage or compatibility issues.
2. Clear, detailed photographs of the assembly process for each sensitive component.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Part I:
• Compile the log of your research activities. Record your logs in a single word Document and name
it ‘Final_Project_Part_I’.

Part II:
• Document your assembly process in a Word file and name it ‘Final_Project_Part_II’

Part III:
• Save the written report as a Word file and label it as " Final_Project_Part_III ".
• Insert all photographs inside the report.

Place your reports in a single folder and compress your folder into a single ZIP file.
Submit the ZIP file. Be sure to follow naming conventions below.

Work must be submitted in the correct file type and be properly labelled as per the College naming
convention:
NAME_COURSE_ASSIGNMENT. E.g. XuXiaLing_FM50D_A01.
