1. Introduction
This document is for integrators to help them to configure and use the Poly UI Control Panel for
HP Poly Android videoconferencing devices.
Minimum software and firmware requirements:
• VideoOS 4.4.0 or newer on HP Poly Android videoconferencing units,
• LARA v1.3.0 or newer on Lightware device.

3. Poly A/V Control with LARA

Poly Android videoconferencing unit controllers like Poly TC10 and TC8 has the functionality to
open a WebView for A/V control like room controls.
Find more on Poly website.
There are several options for creating the UserPanel:
• Using one of LARA’s built-in UserPanel Templates, then pairing it with custom rules for
the UI button presses.
• Using the LARA built-in UserPanel with empty content, then adding your custom-built
UI with HTML, CSS, JS, images and fonts for example, then pairing the HTML elements
like buttons with LARA Rules on your specific way.
• Using the Poly UI Control Panel which automatically generates the buttons, rules,
feedbacks eliminating the need to create your own custom HTML and your own
specific rules.
This user’s manual is all about with the steps and how to.

4. UI Control Overview
The Poly VideoOS 4.4.0 (TCOS 6.4.0 included for TC10 and TC8) software update on Poly Android
units provides the ability to enable the A/V Control menu item on Poly TC10 and TC8 touch
controllers, and configure an URL to open a web UI on them when making a swipe on the touch
controller from right to left and tap on the enabled A/V Control item.
The Poly UI Control Panel module provides generated web UI for source expansions and room
control based on user parameter settings through LARA.

Page 4

Entering the generated web UI’s URL to the touch controllers admin interface makes the web
UI accessible via TC10 or TC8 A/V Control functionality.
A network connection is required between the Poly unit and the Lightware unit running the
Poly UI Control Panel module instance on LARA.

Requirements
For a fully functional system the Poly UI Control Panel module instance requires additional
driver modules’ instances to communicate with.
List of driver module instances required
• Poly VideoOS LARA driver module instance, which initiates changes on the Poly Android
videoconferencing unit and retrieves status information, e.g. mode status (Teams /
Device), mode switch (Teams / Device) and A/V Control page close.
• Taurus UCX/TPX/MMX2 driver module instance, which initiates changes and retrieves
status information on the Lightware unit. Used to have source selection list for BYOD
sources to be selected and switched to the video input connector of the Poly
videoconferencing unit.
• Room control driver modules’ instances, which initiates changes and retrieves status
information on the corresponding room device such as lights, displays, projectors,
screens, shades and so. Used to have room control selection list for device control.
The Poly UI Control Panel module uses the Poly / Taurus / Room control driver’s status variables,
events and methods to take action on status changes and or on UI interaction.
The Poly UI Control Panel module’s Status Variable, Events, Methods, Rules section are empty.
Rules are made in the custom code. Modifying the custom code by the end user and or
integrator is not recommended. In case of modifications, we reserve the right to decline support.

7. Step by step configuration

7.1. Add the driver modules needed
o Open LARA and click on the “Browse Modules” on the top left corner on the UI.
o Add the Taurus UCX/TPX driver module internally from LARA
(in case you need source selection)
o Upload the Poly VideoOS driver module
o Upload the Poly UI Control Panel module
o Add your room control drivers, like for example the LG Signage display driver
(in case you need room control)

7.2. Create instances from the drivers

At this point you need to have all the drivers added and listed under the Modules section.
Now you need to make instances to have the configuration and connection for your devices.
For example use the following instance names for the drivers:
o “taurus-x30-01” instance name for “taurus-driver”,
o “poly-x30-01” instance name for “poly-videoos-driver”,
o “lg-display” instance name for “lg-display-driver”,
o “poly-ui-control-panel-01” instance name for “poly-ui-control-panel”.
Enter the parameters for all of your driver instances to have a good working connection and
usability.
The next topic will focus on setting up the Poly UI Control Panel instance parameters.

8. Poly UI Control Panel instance parameter settings

Click on the LARA Status Board menu and select the instance you created with the Poly UI
Control Panel, then click on the parameter setting on the right.

Scroll for the specific sections inside the parameter window to find the sections described in
the following chapters.

8.1. User Interface Settings

First section of the parameter window is the User Interface Settings where you can
o Name your room which will be displayed on the top right corner of the web UI.
o Select color schemes for Teams or Zoom. (find the example screenshot below)
o Select from different button shapes. (find the example screenshot below)

8.2. Source Selection

The Source Selection section gives the possibility to name your sources and assign icon type.

Names
You have four fields for naming your sources. The number beside the Name of the source
represents the input connector number on the Taurus UCX/TPX.
For example Source 3 represents input connector 3 on the Taurus UCX/TPX.
In case you do not need a specific input then do not give a name. This way you will not have the
not named sources on the generated web UI.

Types
For the named sources you can pair icons.
USB-C and HDMI icons you can choose from to show on the generated web UI.

Poly UI Control Panel for LARA

Page 12

8.3. Room Control

Labels
You have four fields for naming your room control. The number beside the Name of the room
control will be in pair with the type of your room control and instance id of your room control.
The name you enter will be shown on the generated web UI under the control buttons.
These names will be extended with the control functionalities like on an off for example.

Types
The selected type defines the icon set and function set for the room control element.

Poly UI Control Panel for LARA

Page 13

Examples for control types (without the need for completeness)

Functionality
The room control section will be generated to the web UI only if you provide a name, select a
type other than “Not Used” and ensure the linked instance has the required methods for control.
Otherwise, the control buttons and names will not be displayed in the web UI.
Once the room control is displayed on the screen, additional feedback functionalities may be
available.
The status is also displayed on the web UI if the driver you are using has the required status
variables. If there is no related status variable or a different variable name is used, then the status
update will not be shown on the web UI.

Poly UI Control Panel for LARA

8.4. Linking Instances

Going forward with our example, enter the instance names as IDs to the corresponding fields:
o Taurus UCX/TPX driver module with instance id: “taurus-x30-01”
o Poly VideoOS driver module with instance id: “poly-x30-01”
o GPIO driver module with instance id: “lamp-01”
o Sony Bravia Display driver module with instance id: “sony-display”
Example:

8.5. URL of the generated web UI

To find the URL for the web UI, go the Status Board of the LARA and click on the QR code icon.
Under the QR code you will find the URL. Copy this URL to the Poly touch controller settings.

In general you can use the following structure with the Taurus UCX/TPX IP address and the
instance ID of the Poly UI Control Panel:
https://[taurus-device-ipaddress]/laral/userpanel/[instanceid-of-the-poly-ui-control-panel]
example: https://192.168.1.120/lara/userpanel/poly-ui-control-panel-01
