Setting Up Your Mailgun Account


This is not a replacement for watching the lesson, Nuno reviews a lot of intricate
details you’ll want to know for working with clients AND for troubleshooting
common issues. This just serves as a helpful guide for when you go to setup your
account so you can have something easy to refer to!

1. Obtain a Mailgun Account:


● Visit mailgun.com.
● Explore the pricing options and select the "Foundation" plan ($35/month)
for better response handling.

2. Create a Mailgun Account:


● Sign up for a Mailgun account if you don't already have one.
● Fill in the required information during the registration process.
● Verify your email address when prompted.

3. Access the Mailgun Dashboard:


● Once your account is set up and verified, log in to Mailgun.

4. Add a New Domain:


● Navigate to the "Dashboard" in your Mailgun account.
● Locate the "Sending" option and click on it.
● Choose "Domains" and click "Add New Domain."

5. Configure the Domain:


● Enter a subdomain (e.g., MG or replies) before your main domain.
● Select your region (usually "us").
● If needed, consider obtaining a dedicated IP for high email volume.

6. Create DNS Records in Your Domain Provider:


● Access your domain provider's settings (e.g., CloudFlare, GoDaddy,
Namecheap).
● Add the SPF, DKIM, and MX records provided by Mailgun.
● Ensure that these records are correctly configured.

7. Verify DNS Records:


● Return to your Mailgun account and go to "Domain Settings."
● Scroll down to ensure that all DNS records are verified.

8. Add Tracking and Security Enhancements (Optional):


● Enable click tracking and open tracking in your Mailgun domain settings.

● Consider adding DMARC records for email security.

9. Obtain Mailgun API Key:


● Go to your Mailgun account's API keys section.
● Copy the API key, which you'll use for integration.

10. Configure High-Level Email Services (For Agencies):


● In your High-Level account, go to settings and select "Email Services."
● Enter your Mailgun API key and the domain you configured in Mailgun.
11. Activate Tracking Protocol:
● Edit the tracking protocol settings to ensure HTTPS is enabled for links.

12. Test and Monitor:


● Test your email sending and tracking to ensure everything works smoothly.
● Monitor email deliverability and open rates.
