Site inspection over market garden bid

A SCHEME to develop a market garden near Cardigan will create a polytunnel city an objector has told Ceredigion planners.
The enterprise on St Dogmaels Road would be an eyesore and a blot on the landscape, said David Saralis, who lives next door to the fields where Adam York and Lesley Bryson are creating a new business. We are very much against this hideous polythene structure and we object to the loss of privacy and amenity that the escalation in the size of this development is bringing, said Mr Saralis. We should protect the environment now and stop this venture mushrooming out of control and spoiling the landscape, he said. Mr York told the committee that planning policy encourages projects such as the market garden. If we are to have locally grown crops that people want to buy, we have to extend the growing season with discreet polytunnels. Currently, it is very difficult for people to get locally grown vegetables. And businessman Antosh Wislocki, chairman of Cymdeithas Llandudoch, said: This is a sustainable development which provides the opportunity to grow more food locally. This market garden will promote the rural economy and promotes the productive use of agricultural land.

IN an effort to guarantee the future of Nevern village hall and to ensure it continues to play a full role in the life of the community the Nevern village hall committee have set up a 100+Club. For the sum of only 12 a year, members of the club get to support the village hall and have the chance to win 50 six times a year with a bonus draw at Christmas. Running and maintenance costs have to be met

if Nevern village is to continue to provide the community with a venue for local events. County Councillor Mike James is photographed filling in his membership form. Planning officers recommended refusal of the plan due to the impact on the visual amenities of the area, which they say is in the Teifi Valley special landscape area. But councillors agreed to hold a site inspection before making a decision. Cllr John Adams-Lewis said: I would support the development but I am not sure the location is right. And the town council has asked for a site inspection panel.

Streets are cleaner than all-Wales average

STREETS in Carmarthenshire are cleaner than the all-Wales average, according to a new report. The survey, carried out by Keep Wales Tidy, gave Carmarthenshire a score of 69 (out of 100) for cleanliness. This is an improvement on last years figure of 68.1 and above the all-Wales figure of 67.9. The survey also found 98.2 per cent of streets were grade B (predominantly free of litter and refuse apart from some small items) or above, which

again is an improvement on 2010/11 and above the all Wales figure. No D grade streets were found during the course of survey (heavily affected by litter and/or refuse with significant accumulations).
