1.1 Operating System Concept/Introduction :

• An Operating System (OS) is the main software that runs on a computer


or mobile device.

• OS act as a Bridge (manager or middleman) between User , hardware


(like CPU, Memory, Storage etc.), and Various applications (like games,

1. It Runs programs – Helps apps like MS Word or Chrome work.


2. It Manages memory – Decides how much RAM each program gets.
3. It Controls hardware – Helps you use printers, keyboard, mouse, etc.
4. It Handles files – Lets you create, delete, and save files.
5. It Manages users – Keeps different users’ data safe and separate.

1. It transfer input from input device to memory.
2. It transfer input from memory to CPU.
3. It transfer processed data from CPU to output device.
4. It shows messages (notifications) on the screen.
5. It will load application program from storage into main memory.
6. It copy or move data from one storage device to other.
7. It display error message from different processes.

9. It protect storage devices from overwriting.
10. It maintain detail of files and their directories.
11. It protect user data, programs and other files from unauthorized users.
12. It control input and output devices.
