What's "Hop-Pening" in Kindergarten: St. Joseph's School

The Kindergarteners had a busy week learning about eggs and egg-laying animals. They went on a field trip to hear an orchestra play Mozart's music. They read stories and practiced language arts skills like identifying sentences. They are preparing for upcoming Easter activities like an egg drop challenge and Stations of the Cross. They also raised over $1000 for cancer research through a coin drive.

l St. Josephs Schoo

Week of March 26-30

Whats Hop-pening in Kindergarten

An Eggs-cellent Week!!
We painted paper eggs with food coloring and shaving cream. These made a beautiful marble pattern and made our room smell wonderful. We learned how to tell the difference between a raw and a hard boiled egg just by spinning them. When stopped, the raw egg keeps spinning because of the liquid inside. We read and learned about many oviparous, or egg laying, animals this week. We also made egg people...we decorated real eggshells as people and planted grass seed at the top of their heads like hair! We also made stained glass eggs using tissue paper and paper plates!

The Symphony Field Trip

It was a great trip! It was a wonderful experience to hear the orchestra play for us as the conductor talked about the stories behind the music Mozart composed. We learned what a harpsichord was and heard what it sounded like. We listened to some of Mozarts music this week in preparation for our visit. We also read a wonderful story called Orchestranimals. In this book, we were introduced to all the instruments we witnessed in Milwaukee and we were introduced to some words like conductor, baton, and concertmaster.

Glue bottles and napkins!

We could use both of these items !

Reading & Language Arts

We read Eggnapped this week and discussed the many characters in the story. We continue to focus on number words one through five. We used egg cartons to practice our sight words. We also worked on telling sentences. We are truly becoming sentence experts in our ability to identify the naming and action part of sentences. We also are so good at noticing if there is a capital and a period. This week they watched a lamb puppet (Mr. Lamb...original, eh?) do silly things and then they had to give me complete sentences that told what he was doing. We focused on the /g/ sound at the beginning and end of words.

Snacks
We could use some dry snacks for the coming week. Anything that could last until after Easter vacation.
