Microsofts latest Office suite 2010 comes with lots of new features and improvements over Office 2007. The major change in terms of features comes to Outlook 2010 which got a totally new look. Microsoft Outlook 2010 is powerful and intuitive e-mail client software. It provides a very rich set of e-mail management tools to help you better manage your emails with a cool user interface.
Using IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) To set up access to a Gmail account in Outlook 2010 using IMAP: 1. Make sure IMAP access is enabled in Gmail.
To enable IMAP in Gmail: a. Sign in to Gmail. b. Click the gear icon in the upper-right and select Settings. c. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP. d. In IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP. e. Click on Save Changes.

In Outlook 2010, Under the File tab, click on Account Settings under Account Settings. Go to the E-mail tab. Click New.... Make sure Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected. Click Next >. Type your name (what you want to appear in the From: line of messages you send) under Your Name:. 8. Enter your full Gmail address under E-mail Address:. 9. Make sure you include "@gmail.com". If your Gmail account name is "asdf.asdf", make sure you type "[email protected]" (not including the quotation marks), for example. 10. Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is checked. 11. Click Next >. 12. Make sure Internet E-mail is selected. 13. Click Next >. 14. Select IMAP under Account Type:. 15. Type "imap.gmail.com" under Incoming mail server:. 16. Enter "smtp.gmail.com" under Outgoing mail server (SMTP):. 17. Type your Gmail account name under User Name:. 18. If your Gmail address is "[email protected]", for example, type "asdf.asdf". 19. Type your Gmail password under Password:. 20. Click More Settings .... 21. Go to the Outgoing Server tab. 22. Make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked. 23. Now go to the Advanced tab.
24. Select SSL under Use the following type of encrypted connection: for both Incoming server (IMAP): and Outgoing server (SMTP):. 25. Type "465" under Server Port Numbers for Outgoing server (SMTP):. 26. Click OK. 27. Now click Next >. 28. Click Finish. 29. Click Close.
Using POP (Post Office Protocol) To set up access to a Gmail account in Outlook 2010 using POP: 1. Make sure POP access is turned on for your Gmail account. 2. Select Tools | Account Settings... from the menu in Outlook. 3. Go to the E-mail tab. 4. Click New.... 5. Make sure Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP is selected. 6. Click Next >. 7. Type your name as you want it to appear in outgoing email under Your Name:. 8. Enter your Gmail address under E-mail Address:. 9. Type your Gmail password under both Password: and Retype Password:. 10. Make sure Manually configure server settings or additional server types is not checked. 11. Click Next >. 12. Click Finish. 13. Now click Close. 14. Using the Send/Receive toolbar item, you can immediately download new messages in your Gmail account to your Outlook Inbox. 15. Enter your Gmail user name (the part of your Gmail address preceding "@gmail.com") under User Name:. 26. Type your Gmail password under Password:. 27. Click More Settings.... 28. Go to the Outgoing Server tab.
29. Make sure My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked. 30. Go to the Advanced tab. 31. Make sure This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) is checked under Incoming server (POP3):. 32. Verify Outlook has entered "995" under Incoming server (POP3):. 33. Select Auto under Use the following type of encrypted connection: for Outgoing server (SMTP):. 34. Click OK. 35. Click Next >. 36. Now click Finish.
