BUSINESS ANALYTICS

ASSIGNMENT # 1 (Group Assignment) MAX 2 ALLOWED

Business Analytics Intro, Technique,Process
QNO1:Define and give an example of business analytics. Why is this technique becoming so widely used
in organizations today?

QNO2:Describe the business analytics process with reference to the key steps in the process. What is the
most important step in the process and why? Would business analysts and data scientists share this view?

QNO3:Business Analytics (BA) refers to all the methods and techniques that are used by an organization
to measure performance. Business analytics are made up of statistical methods that can be applied to a
specific project, process or product. Business analytics can also be used to evaluate an entire company.
Business analytics are performed in order to identify weaknesses in existing processes and highlight
meaningful data that will help an organization prepare for future growth and challenges.
The need for good business analytics has spurred the creation of business analytics software and
enterprise platforms that mine an organization’s data in order to automate some of these measures and
pick out meaningful insights.
Please identify and name three companies that utilize Business Analytics (BA) along with three
examples of how those organizations could benefit from Big Data.

Business Intelligence And Analytics Tools.

QNO1:Name / Research one or two businesses that use BI/Analytics tools to improve decision making.

QNO2: Describe the tools and their objectives and share your opinion about the approach.

QNO3:Match the business analytic tool with the question it sets out to answer.

QNO4: What is Business Intelligence (BI)? Give some recent examples of BI usage, using the Internet
for assistance. What BI benefits have companies found?

DATA (DESCRIPTIVE ANALYTICS)

QNO1:What is the difference between categorical data and quantitative data? Provide
examples of each.

QNO2:Identify a pair of quantitative variables that are positively correlated, and identify a
pair of variables that are negatively correlated. Explain the selection of each pair.

specific dataset .

QUARTILES FOR OUTLIERS DETECTION
Outliers are data points that are far from other data points. In other words, they’re unusual values in a
dataset. Outliers are problematic for many statistical analyses because they can cause tests to either miss
significant findings or distort real results.Unfortunately, there are no strict statistical rules for definitively
identifying outliers. Finding outliers depends on subject-area knowledge and an understanding of the data
collection process. While there is no solid mathematical definition, there are guidelines and statistical
tests you can use to find outlier candidates.

QNO1:Use the following Box Plots to answer the questions below

I. Which box plot has an outlier?

II. What is the shape of the Distribution by Box B?

QNO2:Which of the following boxplots below is most obviously not skewed (normal)? Decide upon the
correct answer and then “cut” the other two boxplots from this page (simply right click and cut the two
that you would like to remove - thus leaving only the correct answer)

QNO3:Consider the price of the same groceries in the market for 13 consecutive days. They were noted
down as, 40,41,41,40,39,39,140,40,40,41,22,50,16,10It is important to retrieve outliers and for that also
design Box Plots.
