Problem 1. For the circuits below, using ideal diode, find the values of the voltages and
currents indicated.

1
Problem 2. In each of the ideal-diode circuits below, 𝑣𝐼 is a 1kHz, 10V peak sine wave.
Sketch the waveform resulting at 𝑣𝑂 . What are its positive and negative peak values?

(a) (b) (c)

2
Problem 3. For the circuits below, using the large signal model, find the values of the
voltages and currents indicated. Assume VON = 0.7V

3
Problem 4. Use the large signal model for diode with VON = 0.7V when the diode is
forward-biased, determine the values of ID and VD

Problem 5. Use the ideal diode model to determine the state (ON or OFF) of each diode
(D1, D2).

4
Problem 6. Assuming the diodes to be ideal.

1. Sketch the waveform resulting at 𝑣𝑂 (𝑡) when 𝑣𝐼 (𝑡) is a 1kHz, 10V peak sine wave.
2. Describe the transfer characteristic (i.e. 𝑣𝑂 versus 𝑣𝐼 ).

5
Problem 7. Consider the Zener diode regulator circuit shown below. Zener diode has a Zener
voltage of 12V. What is the minimum load resistance for which 𝑣o is 12V?

Problem 8. For the voltage regulator circuit shown below, given that the resistance Rs = 120Ω
and Zener diode has a Zener voltage of 12V.
a) If the Zener diode need a minimum Iz of 6.25mA to maintain its Zener volatage, determine
the minimum value of RL that will keep Vz to be 12V.
b) If the maximum power rating of the Zener diode is 0.9W, determine the maximum
permissible value of RL that will not damage the Zener diode.

6
Problem 9. Consider the Zener diode circuit shown below.

1. Given VON = 0.7V, VZ = 50V, find i1, i2, i3, v1 and v2?
2. Repeat part 1 with VZ = 5V.

7
Problem 10. Given BJT parameters: VBEON = 0.7V, VCESAT = 0.2V, β = 80. Find the values
of RB and RC. Given IB = 40µA and VC = 6V.
