Professor)
INTRODUCTION
• >>In recent years, major concern with climatic changes and
energy efficiency has made the electrification of the transport
sector a very important field of research

• >>EV Vehicles are fed using two ways ---

# directly from the power grid
# second using the batteries
Reason to choose this topic
>> As increase in the EVs in the upcoming yearwill cause a negative
impact in the power grid .
>>In order to reduce the negative effects from the PG point of view and to
facilitate the integration of EVs some authors proposed to use,
-- Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology
--Vehicle-to-Home (V2H technology
ORGANIZATION RELATED TO CHARGING
• >>Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE)

• >>CHAdeMO association

• >>International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Different charging modes
• >>Mode 1 refers to the slow charge in AC with a maximum current of 16
A per phase (3.7 kW - 11 kW)

• >>Mode 2 refers to the slow charge in AC with a maximum current of 32

A per phase (3.7 kW - 22 kW)

• >> Mode 3 refers to the slow or semi-quick charge in AC with a

maximum current of 63 A per phase (< 43 kW)

• >> Mode 4 refers to a DC charging, with a maximum DC current of 400 A

(< 240 kW), where an external charger is required

Overview of the System Components

>> Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Station (EVCS)

>> Energy Storage System (ESS)

>> Renewable Energy Sources (RES).

>> Power Electronics Converters

Power Electronics Converter
Types of Power Electronics Converters
Used
AC-DC Converter (Rectifier)

>>Converts AC power from the grid or from renewable sources (if

connected to the grid) into DC power suitable for battery charging.
>>Used to charge the ESS and EVs.
>>Can be bidirectional, allowing for both charging and discharging
of batteries.
DC-AC Converter (Inverter)
>>Converts DC power from the energy storage system or renewable energy sources
into AC power when the grid needs additional power or when renewable generation is
high.

>>Helps feed surplus power back to the grid (grid-connected mode) or provide local
AC power.
DC-DC Converter

>>Used to adjust the voltage levels between different DC systems (e.g., to charge
the battery at the correct voltage or to provide the optimal charging voltage to EVs).

>>Ensures that the voltage level remains optimal for both the ESS and the EV
during charging or discharging.

Integration of
Renewable Energy
Sources
Solar Power Integration:

• A solar inverter is used to convert DC power generated by solar panels into

AC power for use in the charging station. Solar power can either be used
directly to charge EVs or feed into the ESS for storage.
• A DC-DC converter is used to regulate and manage the power from the solar
panels before charging batteries.
Wind Power Integration:

• Like solar, wind turbines also produce DC power, which is convertedto AC

using an inverter foruse in the stationor tocharge the ESS.
• Theintegrationprocess is similar to solar in terms of converter usage.
Energy Storage System
Energy Storage System
>> Due to the increasing number of EV charging and discharging
cycles over time, the capacity of the EVs batteries reduces

>> consequently, the EV range decreases, thereby it is necessary to

proceed with the replacement.

>>These replaced batteries can be reused in stationary ESS to

smooth the peak demand of the EV FCS.
ESS Advantages in the Charging Station

The ESS serves multiple functions in an EV fast charging station:

Peak Shaving
During peak times, when the demand for energy is high, the ESS can provide stored
energy, reducing the demand on the grid.

Backup Power:
In case of grid failure or unavailability, ESS can continue to operate the charging
station for a period, ensuring uninterrupted service.

FCS OPERATION PARAMETERS
CONCLUSION
>>In this , a new concept of a DC Fast Charging Station (FCS) for
Electric Vehicles (EVs) is presented.
>>The main advantages of the proposed EV DC FCS architecture
are the energy storage capability and the easy integration of
renewables.
>>The Energy Storage System (ESS) in the proposed architecture
can be mainly composed by batteries, reused from EVs.
>>The proposed EV DC FCS is composed by a set of power
converters .
>>we have gone through the case studies as well.
