IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Code of Ethics

For electrical engineers, the IEEE Code of Ethics states the following:

●​ Accepting responsibility for decisions affecting public safety.


●​ Avoiding real or perceived conflicts of interest.
●​ Being honest and realistic in claims and estimates.
●​ Seeking and accepting constructive criticism.
●​ Improving the technical competence of oneself and others.

From the Markkula Center Framework

Two Value lens include:

The Common Good Lens- Highlights ethical reasoning based on the well-being of the
community as a whole. This includes clean air, public safety, and education. This supports the
welfare of all, especially the vulnerable.

The Care Ethics Lens- Highlights empathy, relationships, and interdependence in ethical
decision-making. Putting the well-being of individuals first by considering their different
circumstances and emotions, rather than only following rules or maximizing utility.
