SEMESTER ASSIGNMENT QUESTIONS AND GUIDELINES

CS 514: COMPUTER GRAPHICS AND VISUALIZATION

The semester assignment will provide students with hands-on experience on computer graphics
and visualization skills covered in the class. Please note that this is an individual assignment.

ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS: Students should strictly adhere to ethical writing style.
Avoid plagiarism and any form of ethical misconduct. Acknowledge,
paraphrase, and properly cite the reference materials used. Avoid using
ChatGPT and its variant to generate source codes and texts for your assignment
directly; instead, use the OpenAI guidelines for research ethics.

QUESTION:

You are to select any graphics programming application of your choice. The application should
demonstrate the benefit of graphics programming in designing computer graphics. In addition, the
application should use the principles of computer graphics pipelining/rendering covered in the
lecture presentations. Your work is to design and implement your program (application) in
computer graphics and visualization by implementing your design/program and then validating
your proposed application.

Please keep in mind the following policy:


 Submit the soft copies of your work to your class representative on the due date. Also,
note that your work's file(s) should be turned in by e-mail by the due date.
 When your work is not turned in on time, a late penalty will be given. Notice that it is
10% a day within a week, and thereafter, your score is 0.
 You may discuss problems with your friends, but all work must be done individually, and
you must be able to prove that you understand everything that you hand in. Any copied
work will be given 0 for both the copied work and the work it was copied from.

 Ethical research is the foundation of qualitative education. The students should


strictly adhere to ethical standards, avoid plagiarism and any form of ethical
misconduct.

Programming language/tools/target architecture


Programming language: OPENGL: C / C++

Integrated Design Environment (IDE): CODE: BLOCKS (The open source, cross-platform IDE)

The following should be turned in in the form of a technical report.


- Complete source code of your program
- Compile messages (screen capture)
- Input and output data of your running test, including log messages (screen capture)
- Documentation, including (i) explanation of your program and (ii) discussion on your validation

Final report

- You are requested to submit the final report.

Grading criteria

 Clarity: Does it clearly state what to develop/solve and what has been done?
 Originality: Is the proposed idea/solution original?
 Approach: How realistic are the development process and experiment environment?
 Presentation: Is the presentation persuasive?
 Report: Are the reports (proposal and final report) nicely organized and well presented?
Submission
Please submit the soft copies of the assignment to your class representative. The
submission due date is Monday, 5th May 2025.
