Lab Report

The document compares Half Wave and Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers, focusing on their working, output waveforms, and efficiency. Half wave rectifiers only convert one half of the AC signal to DC, resulting in lower efficiency and more ripple, while full wave rectifiers utilize both halves for a smoother and more efficient output. Consequently, full wave rectifiers are deemed more suitable for practical applications.

Comparison of Half Wave and

Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers

Title:
Comparison of Half Wave and Full Wave Bridge Rectifiers

Objective:
To study and compare the working, output waveforms, and efficiency of a Half Wave Rectifier and a Full
Wave Bridge Rectifier.

Apparatus:
 Step-down Transformer (220V to 12V)
 Diodes (IN4007)
 Resistor (1k Ohm)
 LED
 Breadboard
 Connecting wires
 Oscilloscope or Multimeter
 AC Power Supply

Theory:

Half Wave Rectifier:

A half wave rectifier allows only one half (positive) of the AC input signal to pass through. It uses a single
diode to block the negative half of the waveform. As a result, it produces a pulsating DC output with
gaps, making it inefficient for practical use.

Full Wave Bridge Rectifier:

A full wave bridge rectifier uses four diodes arranged in a bridge configuration. This setup allows both
halves of the AC waveform to be converted into a continuous pulsating DC. It is more efficient and
provides a smoother output compared to the half wave rectifier.

DISCUSSIONS :

Half-wave rectifiers convert only one half of the AC signal to DC, making them less efficient
with more ripple. Full-wave rectifiers use both halves of the AC signal, providing smoother and
more efficient DC output. Therefore, full-wave rectifiers are generally more suitable for practical
applications.
