The Data Types – in spreadsheet, unlike in word processors, data comes in a


variety of types for purposes of computations

 Label – the data is represented by a character string ( non-numeric ), or if


the data is numeric in nature but will not be used as computation
 Value – the data is represented by a numeric string which may be used for
computation
 Formula – the expressions that perform calculations. Formulas in Excel begin
with an equal (=) sign. It is a sequence of values, cell references, names,
functions, or operators that are contained in a cell and produces a new
value from an existing value.

Types of Operators

Arithmetic Operator Meaning/Example


+ ( plus sign) Addition ( 4+$ )
- (minus sign ) Subtraction (4-1)
* ( asterisk ) Multiplication ( 9*2)

Comparison Operator Meaning/Example


= (equal sign ) Equal to (A1=B1)
> (greater than sign ) Greater than (A1>B1)
< (less than sign ) Less Than (A1<B1)
>= (greater than or equal to sign ) Greater than or equal to (A1>=B1)
<= ( less than or equal to sign) Less than or equal to (A1<=B1)
<> ( not equal to sign ) Not equal to (A1<>B1)

Text Concatenation Operator Meaning/Example


& (ampersand sign) Connects, or concatenates, two
values to produce one continues

Reference Operator Meaning/Example

reference to all the cells between

Direction:
Create and save a spreadsheet file with the name “Familyname-Mugs”. Fill the worksheet with the Following.

1. The sale of USB is consistent at 10,000 per month for the 6-months as projected.
2. The sale of MP4 is 1,000 on January. The sale of MP4 is projected to double every month thereafter.
3. There is 10 percent sales discount on all sales.
4. Gross sales is computed as the total sale of USB and MP4 less a sales discount of 10% for each month.
5. The expenses are fixed for each month. The expenses for the month of January are shown in the
worksheet.
6. Use formulas in the TOTAL column to compute the row totals for 6-months from January to June
7. Use a formula to add all the Total expenses.
8. Use formula for compute the Gross Profit. Gross Profit is computed as Gross Sales minus Total
expenses.
9. Use the formulas to compute the cumulative profit or loss. The cumulative profit or loss is computed by
adding the Gross Profit for the current month to the previous month’s cumulative profit or loss. It shows
the cumulative or accumulated profit or loss over the 6-month period
10. Show all cumulative losses (if negative) in red and enclosed in quotation marks.
11. Print the 6-month projection but double underline (using borders) the Gross Profit and Cumulative
profit/loss totals.
12. Display the month titles a pink background color.
13. Generate a bar chart for the revenue sales of USB and MP3 over the 6-month period.
