2. Find the expansion of the following using suitable identity and mention the identity used.
(i) (𝟐𝒙 + 𝟕)(𝟐𝒙 + 𝟖) =(𝟐𝒙)𝟐 + (𝟕 + 𝟖)𝟐𝒙 + 𝟕 × 𝟖
= 𝟒𝒙𝟐 + 𝟑𝟎𝒙 + 𝟓𝟔
➢ (𝒙 + 𝒂)(𝒙 + 𝒃) = 𝒙𝟐 + (𝒂 + 𝒃) 𝒙 + 𝒂𝒃
(ii) (𝒙 + 𝟑𝒚)(𝒙 − 𝟑𝒚) = −(𝟑𝒚)𝟐
= 𝒙𝟐 − 𝟗𝒚𝟐
➢ (a + b)(a – b) = a2 – b2
(𝒊𝒊𝒊)(𝒑 − 𝟒𝒒)𝟐 = 𝒑𝟐 − 𝟐 × 𝒑 × 𝟒𝒒 + (𝟒𝒒)𝟐
= 𝒑𝟐 − 𝟖𝒑𝒒 + 𝟏𝟔𝒒𝟐
➢ (a – b)2 = a2 – 2ab + b2
3. Simplify: (3𝑥 + 2𝑦)2 + (3𝑥 − 2𝑦)2.
Page 1 of 6
L.H.S=(3 𝑥 + 5 𝑦) 2 – 30 𝑥𝑦
= (3 𝑥)2 +2(3 𝑥 )(5 𝑦) +(5 𝑦)2 – 30 𝑥𝑦
=9 𝑥 2+30 𝑥 𝑦 +25 𝑦 2– 30 𝑥𝑦
=9x2 +25 𝑦 2 =RHS
➢ (a + b)2 = a2 + 2ab + b2
6. Case Study: Wall Design and Area Calculation
Emma is building her dream house and is currently working on designing a large rectangular wall in the
living room. This wall will have a door leading to the hallway and a window for natural light. To plan for
painting, Emma needs to calculate how much of the wall will need paint, excluding the areas of the door
and window. She also wants to double-check the measurements for the door and window to ensure
everything fits perfectly.
A rectangular wall, as shown in the figure, has a door and a window. The wall's overall dimensions, along
with those of the door and window, are provided below:
• Wall Dimensions: Height = 5 𝑥, Width = 5 𝑥 +2
• Door Dimensions: Height = 3 𝑥, Width = 𝑥
• Window Dimensions: Height = 𝑥, Width = 2 𝑥

Understanding Quadrilaterals
13. Two adjacent angles of a parallelogram are in the ratio 4:5. Find their measures.
adjacent angles are 4 𝒙 and 5 𝒙
4 𝒙 +5 𝒙 =180(Adjacent angles of a parallelogram are supplementary)
9 𝒙 =1800
𝒙 =180/9
=200
Angles are 4 𝒙 =4x20= 80 0and
5 𝒙 = 5x20=1000.
14. Each interior angle of a polygon is 108°. Find the number of sides of the polygon.
Each interior angle + Corresponding Exterior angle =1800(linear Pair)
Each exterior angle=180−108
=72o each.
Number of sides=360/72
=5(Sum of the exterior angles of a polygon is 360.)
Number of exterior angles=Number of sides
15. Find the values of 𝑥 and 𝑦 in the following parallelogram. State the reasons.
Page 4 of 6
1200 +5 𝒙 +10 =180(adjacent angles of a parallelogram are supplementary)
𝒙 =50/5
𝒙 =100
6 𝒚 =120(opposite angles are equal)
𝒚 =200
16. i)Find the length of the diagonals of the given parallelograms ABOE . State reasons.
Page 5 of 6
Each interior angle =5x
Corresponding Exterior angle=1x
1 𝒙 +5 𝒙 =1800(linear pair)
6 𝒙 =1800
𝒙 =180/6
=300
Exterior angle = 𝟏𝒙 =300
Number of sides=360/30=12(Sum of the exterior angles of a polygon is 360.)
18. The adjacent angles of a parallelogram are (2𝑥 – 4)° and (3𝑥 – 1)°. Find the measures of all angles of the
parallelogram.
(2 𝒙 – 4)° +(3 𝒙 – 1)°=180 (adjacent angles of a parallelogram are supplementary)
5 𝒙 –5 =180
5 𝒙 =185
𝒙 =370
Angles are(2 𝒙 – 4)° =2x37–4= 74–4=700
And (𝟑𝒙 – 𝟏)°=3x37–1=111–1=1100
Angles are 700 , 700 , 1100, 1100(opposite angles are equal)
19. If diagonals of a quadrilateral are equal, it must be a rectangle. Do you Agree or Disagree? Write to
support your answer.
Answer:
• Disagree. A quadrilateral with equal diagonals can be a rectangle or Square or an isosceles
trapezium.
• In a rectangle, the equal diagonals bisect each other, while in an isosceles trapezium, they are
equal but do not necessarily bisect each other.
• In Square diagonals are equal and perpendicular bisectors.
• Thus, equal diagonals alone do not guarantee a quadrilateral is a rectangle.
