Q.No.1 A certain city has area of 1300 Sq. miles and is covered by a cellular system using a 7 cell
reuse pattern. Each cell has a radius of 4 miles and city is allocated 40 MHz of spectrum with a full
duplex channel bandwidth of 60 KHz.
(a) Find the number of cells in the service area
(b) Find the number of channels per cell.

Q.No.2 A hexagonal cell within 4 cell system has a radius of 1.388 KM. Total 60 channels are used
within the entire system. Find the number of channels per cell in the system.

Q.No.3 A cellular service provider decides to use a digital TDMA scheme which can tolerate a SIR
ratio of 15 dB in the worst case. Find the optimal value of N i.e the number of cells in a cluster for
a path loss exponent of 4
a) Omni-directional antennas
b) 120 degree sectoring
c) Repeat part a and b for path loss exponent of 3 and comment on your answer

Q.No.4 Prove that for a hexagonal geometry, the co-channel reuse ratio (D/R) is given as √3𝑁

Q.No.5 Using MATLAB, plot S/I (i.e. CCI) in dB versus Cluster Size, N, when N takes on the
acceptable values between 1 and 30. Plot curves for the exponential path loss, n, equal to 2, 3, 4
and 5
