CONTENT
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE
Computer requires programs to function, typically executing the program’s instructions in a central
processor.
COMPUTER PROGRAM
It can be defined as a sequence of instructions written to perform a specified task for a computer.
Programming is the act of writing sequence of codes in order to solve a particular problem.
A computer programmer is a person who writes computer programs.

TYPES OF PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES

There are three major types of programming languages, they are:
• Machine language
• Low level language
• High level language
MACHINE LANGUAGE
This is a fundamental language of the computer. It is made up of strings of 0’s and 1’s. it runs very fast
during processing since no translation is needed. It is the only language understood by the computer
which the computer can run without modification. Programming in machine language can be very
tedious and difficult

LOW LEVEL LANGUAGE

This is also called symbolic language. The low level language replaces the binary case of machine
language. Programs written in low level language needs to be translated into a machine language by
a translator called assembler.
Assembler is a program that translates programs written in symbolic code to a machine code or
language. It is closer to machine code like Assembly language
HIGH LEVEL LANGUAGE
These are languages written in English-like format. It is more compatible with human language and
human thought process.
A compiler translates High level source code into machine readable codes at once while an
interpreter translates source code every time the program is executed. It is easy to read and write like
Python or Java
EXAMPLES OF HIGH LEVEL LANGUAGES
BASIC (Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code)
FORTRAN (Formula Translator)
COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language)
PASCAL
C++
C
JAVA
PL/1 (Programming Language 1)
STRATEGIES AND ACTIVITIES:
Activity I: The scheme of work for the new term is written on the board for learners
Activity II: Teacher introduces the new topic to the learners
Activity III: Lesson objectives are written on the board and shared with the learners
Activity IV: Key vocabulary words are written on the board for learners to define and explain
Activity V: Learners will list out the types of programming language.
Activity VI: Learners will move around to observe the charts, pictures and images of some of writing
programs
Activity VII: The teacher explains the topic and uses open and close ended questions to ensure the
students understand
Activity VIII: The lesson objective is revisited to ensure they have been achieved
Activity IX: The note is written on the board for learners to copy in their notes
Activity X: Assignment is given to the learners
WRAP UP & ASSESSMENT: in order to determine the students comprehension of the topic, students
were able to
 define Computer programming Language
 Differentiate between High level Language and Low level Language
 List examples of programming languages

ASSIGNMENT: Briefly explain BASIC programming language

THE WORKSHEET
What is a Spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet is a computer program that allows users to store, organize, and analyze data in a table
format.

Key Features of Spreadsheets

1. Cells: The basic building blocks of a spreadsheet, where data is entered. It is the smallest unit of
storage that can hold a single piece of data such as a number, text or formula
2. Rows and Column: Cells are organized into rows and columns, making it easy to navigate and
manage data.
a) Rows: these are horizontal position of the cells and are identified by numbers eg 1,2.3 etc
b) Columns: these are vertical positions of the cell identified by letters such as A,B,C etc
3. Formulas and Functions: Used to perform calculations and manipulate data.
4. Charts and Graphs: Visual representations of data, making it easier to understand and analyze.

Types of Spreadsheets
1. Microsoft Excel: A popular spreadsheet program developed by Microsoft.
2. Google Sheets: A free, web-based spreadsheet program developed by Google.
3. LibreOffice Calc: A free, open-source spreadsheet program.

Uses of Spreadsheets
1. Budgeting and Financial Management: Track income, expenses, and create budgets.
2. Data Analysis: Analyze and visualize data to make informed decisions.
3. Record Keeping: Store and manage data, such as student grades or inventory.
4. Business Planning: Create business plans, forecasts, and reports.
