TEACHER PRINCIPAL
I would lIke to express my
gratitude and appreciation to
everyone who has contributed to
the completion of my physics
project. I would like to
acknowledge my physics teacher
for providing me with guidance and
support throughout the process.
Without their knoWledge and
expertise, it would have been
difficult for me to gather
accurate information and conduct
a thorough analysis.
EvEryonE’s contributions have
played a significant role in the
successful completion of this
project, and I am truly grateful
for their assistance

 BIBLIOGRAPHY
1. To understand the fundamental
principles of projectile motion.
2. To investigate and analyze the
equations governing projectile motion.

3. To conduct experiments to measure

and record the motion of projectiles.

4. To explore practical applications of

projectile motion.
Projectile motion is the theory
that describes the motion of an object that
is thrown into the air and moves along a
curved path under the influence of gravity.

A particle moves in both horizontal and

vertical directions simultaneously when it
is propelled obliquely near the earth’s
surface.

An object that is in flight after being

thrown or projected is called a projectile.

The path the body follows is referred to as

a trajectory.
1. Projectile launcher (could be a
slingshot, air cannon, or any other
appropriate device)
2. Balls or objects with known masses
3. Protractor
4. Stopwatch
5. Measuring tape or ruler
6. Smooth, level surface or outdoor area
7. Data recording tools (notebook,
Computer)
Experiment 1: Projectile Range vs.
Launch Angle

1. Set up the projectile launcher in a

suitable location with a clear range for the
projectile.
2. Choose a launch angle (e.g., 30
degrees) and fix it on the launcher.
3. Load a projectile (e.g., a ball) into the
launcher.
.
4 Aim and launch the projectile.
5. Measure the range (horizontal distance)
the projectile travels before hitting the
ground.
6. Record the launch angle and range.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 for different launch
angles (e.g., 45 degrees, 60 degrees).
8. Plot a graph of launch angle vs. range.
9. Analyze the graph to determine the
launch angle that gives the maximum
range.

Experiment 2: Projectile Height vs.

Time
1. Set up the launcher as before.
2. Choose a fixed launch angle (e.g., 45
degrees).
3. Load a projectile and launch it.
4. Start the stopwatch as soon as the
projectile is launched.
5. Measure the height of the projectile
above the ground at regular time intervals
(e.g., every second).
6. Record the time and height data.
7. Plot a graph of time vs. height.
8. Analyze the graph to determine the
maximum height reached by reach it.
Time of flight - h = ut + ½ gt2
h = ½ gt2
t = (2h/g)1/2
Horizontal range- HR= ut
HR= u (2h/g)1/2
Velocity at any time- V= [(UX)2 + (Vy)2]1/2
V= (u2+g2t2)1/2
Time to reach maximum height-
Vy= Uy + ayt
t = usinΘ/g
Time of flight- T= Ta + Td
T= 2Ta
T= 2(usinΘ/g)
Horizontal range- HR= ut
HR= ucosΘ (2usinΘ/g)
HR= u2sin2Θ/g
HR = u2 sin2 (90°- Θ)/g
HR= u2sin2Θ/g
Velocity at any point of time-
V= (Vx + Vy)1/2
Vx = U cos (θ)
Vy = U sin (θ)− gt
V = [(U cos (θ))2 + (U sin (θ)− gt)2] ½
V = (U2 + g2t2 – 2ugtsin (θ))1/2
Projectile motion is a physics concept that
has many real-world applications,
including:
 Sports: The motion of balls in sports like
basketball, football, and soccer is an
example of projectile motion. For
example, a basketball player shoots the
ball into the basket at a specific angle and
speed to make it travel the required
distance.

 Military: Projectile motion is important in

military applications, such as naval battles
and modern artillery weapons.

 Space exploration: Spaceships undergo

projectile motion as they escape Earth's
gravitational field.
 Fireworks: Fireworks are an example of
projectile motion.

 Meteors: Meteors entering Earth's

atmosphere are an example of projectile
motion.
Here are some precautions to take when
performing a projectile motion experiment:
 Wear eye protection: Wear safety
glasses at all times during the
experiment.

 Secure the launcher: Make sure the

launcher is attached securely to the table
and won't move when fired.

 Check the launcher: Before shooting,

check the side of the barrel to see if the
launcher is loaded. A yellow indicator and
the ball will be visible in the range slots if it
is loaded.

 Check the flight path: Ensure no one is

in the path of the projectile before
shooting.
 Pull the string: To shoot the ball, pull the
string attached to the trigger straight up by
about a centimetre.

 Don't change positions: Do not move

the projectile launcher or force plate while
performing the experiment.
So basically, in this project we
investigated and analyzed the equations
of projected motion and we also recorded
our observation about motion of projectile
and lastly we saw some practical
applications of it.
