Artificial Intelligence in Earthquake Prediction
Artificial Intelligence in Earthquake Prediction
Abstract
1. Introduction
Earthquakes are among the most destructive natural disasters, claiming thousands of
lives and causing billions in damages annually. Traditional seismic forecasting relies
on statistical models and geological analysis, but these approaches have had limited
success in predicting precise time, location, and magnitude. With the rise of AI,
particularly neural networks and time-series analysis tools, researchers are exploring
new ways to detect precursors and improve prediction accuracy (McBrearty et al.,
2021).
• Supervised Learning: Models like Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Random
Forests are trained on labeled historical earthquake data to predict future
events based on specific precursors (e.g., foreshocks, ground deformation).
• Data Fusion: AI can combine seismic, GPS, satellite, and environmental data
for multi-dimensional analysis.
• Speed: AI systems can process vast data streams in real-time, enabling rapid
responses in early warning networks.
