Overview The purpose of this chapter is to present a brief overview of the features and characteristics of
the CPU-4.x.xX control subsystem. The control subsystem consists of the CPU, Backplane X,
cabling, EGM power supply module (PSM), and fan tray. There are four versions of the CPU-4x;
CPU-4.1.1X (1452768), CPU-4.2.1X (1453975), CPU-4.1.2X (1453298), and CPU-4.2.2X
(1458954), Figure 1-1.
Figure 1-1 CPU-4.1.1X, CPU-4.2.1X (top), CPU-4.1.2X and CPU-4.2.2X (bottom).
The different CPUs are compatible with either Backplane 2.0 (1443340) or Backplane 4.0
(1453292), and have different DRAM chip sizes and processors. Refer to Table 1-1 for more
details.

CAUTION
CPU-4.x.xX can be damaged if misused. Do not let the EGM fall over.
CPU Cleaning Power the EGM OFF and remove the CPU from the EGM to an ESD-protected area.
Using a soft, lint-free, static-free cloth, clean the CPU enclosure vents from the interior and
exterior to remove accumulated dust and debris. Use caution to thoroughly remove all dust and
keep it from falling onto the CPU PCB.
Inspect the CPU PCB. If any dust is visible, DO NOT TOUCH or WIPE THE PCB OR ANY
COMPONENTS. Instead, use compressed air in short bursts to dislodge any dust.
CPU-4.x.xX Complete one of the following procedures to perform maintenance on the CPU-4.x.xX:

WARNING
When removing the video card, do not hold it by the heat sink. Instead, only hold it by the
edges of the board that is attached to the heat sink. Failure to do so may damage the
video card.
5 Holding it by the edges of the board, carefully lift the video card and video card duct at a
45-degree angle and pull it from the connector, Figure 3-49.
Figure 3-49 Lift the video card out.
6 Using a small flathead screwdriver, carefully remove the video card duct from the video
card. Set the video card duct aside, it will be reused later in this procedure.
WARNING
When installing the video card, do not hold it by the heat sink. Instead, only hold it by the
edges of the board that is attached to the heat sink. Failure to do so may damage the
video card.
NOTE
Make sure that the two screw holes are lined up with the holes in the video card,
Figure 3-50 (A). If they are not, then the video card is not seated correctly. Please remove
and re-install the video card again.
5 Rotate the video card down until it is horizontal to the CPU. Verify that the two screw holes
are lined up with the holes in the video card, Figure 3-50 (A).
