📑 Facilitator Notes (Per Segment)

0:00 – 0:15: Welcome + Icebreaker

 Icebreaker: Communication Bingo (Find someone who… “Sent a

confusing email”, “Prefers voice notes” etc.).

 Purpose: Start light, encourage movement, uncover common

communication quirks.

 Facilitator Tip: Keep the energy high. Use humor and playfulness
to get buy-in.

0:15 – 0:35: The Science of Communication

 Introduce the Communication Model (Sender → Message →

Receiver → Feedback → Noise).

 Emphasize intent vs impact.

 Real-life Example: Miscommunication between sales and logistics

that led to a delayed shipment.

0:35 – 1:00: Barriers & Filters

 Group Discussion: Ask “What stops people from communicating
effectively?”

 Categories: Language, tone, assumptions, culture, hierarchy,

distractions.

 Reflection: Refer to the pre-work journal prompt.

1:00 – 1:30: Activity 1 – Chinese Whispers Remix

 Teams pass on a complex instruction or brief. Final message is

shared aloud.

 Debrief on how tone, word choice, assumptions, and noise distort

messages.

1:30 – 1:40: Energizer

 Non-Verbal Quiz: Display 5 body language gestures (arms crossed,

eye contact, fidgeting, etc.)

 Ask: "Which suggests confidence? Which signals discomfort?"

 Stand up if you agree, sit if you don’t.

1:40 – 2:00: Active Listening

 Teach the 4 levels of listening: Passive, Selective, Attentive,

Empathetic.

 Pair Exercise: One speaks about a workplace frustration. The other

listens actively (no interrupting, paraphrasing only).

2:00 – 2:30: Stakeholder Style Match

 Participants draw stakeholder personas (e.g., senior leader, peer,

customer) and communication challenges.

 Match appropriate communication style (formal, collaborative, data-

driven, concise).

 Debrief: One size doesn’t fit all – adaptability is key.

2:30 – 2:50: Assertive vs Passive/Aggressive

 Facilitator Demo: Role-play 3 ways of saying “I need more support

on this project.”

o Passive: Avoids the point

o Aggressive: Blames others

o Assertive: Clear, respectful

 Group discussion on language and tone.

2:50 – 3:10: Real Play Scenarios

 Break into groups. Each gets a real-life scenario (e.g., giving

feedback to a peer, disagreeing with a senior).

 Practice using assertive, audience-matched, clear communication.

 Facilitator/peers give feedback using a checklist.

3:10 – 3:30: Reflection + Close

 Action Planning: Each participant writes one thing they will

stop/start/continue in their communication.

 Collect questions in a “Parking Lot”.

 Use a tool like Kahoot! or a quick reflection board for feedback.
