INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES :
1. SECTION-A is COMPULSORY consisting of TEN questions carrying T WO marks
each.
2. SECTION-B contains FIVE questions carrying FIVE marks each and students
have to attempt any FOUR questions.
3. SECTION-C contains T HREE questions carrying T EN marks each and students
have to attempt any T WO questions.

SECTION-A

1. Write briefly :

a. When is the OV flag set? Discuss.

b. Discuss the advantages of microcontrollers.

c. What is the need of program counter? Discuss where the 8051 wakes up when it is
powered up.

d. Discuss the precautions in using the stack in subroutines.

e. What is the use of a simulator in a development phase?

f. On what factors the size of the time delay depends?

g. What do you mean by the term interfacing? Discuss.

h. What is do you mean by Embedded system? How they are useful?

i. What do you mean by memory? Discuss its need.

j. Compare serial and parallel communication.

SECTION-B

2. Discuss the various inputs/output pins and ports that connect the 8051 to the outside
world.

3. Write an assembly language programme to generate a square wave of 2kHz frequency on


pin 1.5. Assuming that XTAL = 11.0592 MHz. Also draw the flow chart/write the
algorithm of the same.

4. Explain the concept of external memory and memory space decoding. Also discuss
memory mapped I/O.

5. What do you mean by FPGA? Discuss the architecture of FPGA in brief.

6. What is the use of PLC in modern world? Discuss the operation of a PLC and its use.
Also differentiate it from hardwired system.

SECTION-C

7. a) Explain in detail the various register banks and stack used in 8051 microcontroller.

b) Write a note on the serial data transmission with respect to 8051.

8. Explain the various arithmetic, data moving, logical, Jump and Call instructions used in
8051 microcontrollers.

9. Discuss the following :

a) Testing and design of microcontroller.

b) PLC ladder diagram realization and classification of PLC.
