PSYCHOLOGY Assignment 1
PSYCHOLOGY Assignment 1
SELF-ASSESSMENT OF MY PERSONALITY
I gave an MBTI based online questionnaire and found my personality to have the following
traits: Introverted (74%), Observant (65%), Thinking (53%), Judging (74%), Turbulent
(54%). My personality is mostly a product of nurture (upbringing). My cardinal trait is to
follow the path of truth and honesty. Right from childhood, my upbringing has shaped me to
achieve any kind of success by honesty as because whenever I am honest, I feel satisfied with
the achievement. Central traits of mine include remaining silent most of the time(kind of
introvert), helping others whenever possible, doing hard work for making my parents proud,
laughing out loud with people who are really close to me, preferring to keep room clean, etc.
My personality lies somewhere on the borderline of Type A (feeling short of time) and Type
B (no urgency of time) personality.
Some of the traits that I consider to have inherited is avoiding aggression, avoiding risks,
calm temperament, remaining optimistic in life and an inclination towards art. Whereas,
learned personality traits of mine include discipline, honesty, perseverance and altruism.
Though I make less friends but I try to be trustworthy to them who trusted in me and helped
me in my difficult times, which is learned trait of mine (learned from family members).
Now, talking about Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory which consists of id, ego and
superego, I consider my personality is dominated by superego as I am more inclined towards
moral ethical values rather than pleasure-seeking instincts. For example, I am very angry at
somebody, then 'id' will tell me to show aggression and start fighting but
'superego'(dominant) will make me suppress my anger and stop me from showing aggression
as it is not ethically correct, and 'ego' will lead to discuss the issue rationally. Similarly, if I
am studying for an exam but am getting bored and a little tired, then, 'id' will tell to watch
YouTube, movie or social media but 'superego' will make me sit to study in order to complete
syllabus. Hence, I prefer rational and moral behaviour most of the time (superego dominates).
My personality of being honest and helpful has been greatly shaped by role models such as
my parents, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, etc. as I have grown by watching them prioritize these
qualities. Early life experiences such as positive reinforcements from teachers and
achievements in school have built a sense of competence, curiosity, self-esteem and work
ethics in my personality. Also, my personality is kind of introvert as in my school days, I
could not fit in peer expectations so I could not make many friends and that also led to a
strong desire in myself for social acceptance by the path of hard work and success.
