QUESTION ONE (30MARKS)
(a)(i) Outline any TWO applications of Intel 8085 microprocessors (i) Draw a block diagram of a microcomputer showing the main physical features (10marks) (b)With reference to Intel 8085 architecture, explain with examples the main functions the following: (i) Timing and control unit (ii) Arithmetic and logic unit (iii) General purpose registers (6marks) (c) (i) Calculate the number of registers in a 64k memory board (ii) Explain any THREE differences between the machine language and the assembly language of 8085 microprocessors (8marks) (d) (i) Explain the role of the HLT (Halt) instruction in the 8085 microprocessors (ii) If an instruction takes 5 machine cycles to execute on the 8085 microprocessors and each machine cycle consist of 3 T-states determine the number of the number of T-states required to complete the HLT instruction (6marks)

(a) With the aid of waveform describe the fetch and execution instruction timing cycle of Intel 8085 microprocessor (6marks) (b) Explain the main functions of program counter and stack pointer as controls used in Intel 8085 microprocessors (4marks) (c) The program counter (PC) contains the value 2050H and a jump instruction adds 0C0EH to the PC while the stack pointer (SP) contains the value 22FFH and a CALL instruction is to be executed. Determine the: (i) new value of the PC (ii) address stored in the stack after the call (5marks)

(a) Explain the following machine control instructions: (i) Disable interrupts (ii) Enable Interrupts (5marks) (b) (i) Write an assembly language program to add or subtract two 16-bit numbers (ii) With reference to assembly language programming distinguish between the source and mnemonics codes types of code, giving an example of each (10marks) QUESTION FIVE (15MARKS) (a) With reference to microprocessor programming distinguish between: (i) Program coding and debugging (ii) Flowchart programming and subroutine (5marks) (b) (i) Design a flowchart for intel 8085 to multiply two 8-bit numbers indicating the assembly program flow.
