A Brief History of JavaScript
1. Introduction
JavaScript is a high-level, interpreted programming language primarily used to create interactive
effects within web browsers.
It is one of the core technologies of the World Wide Web, alongside HTML and CSS.
2. Creation in 1995
JavaScript was created by Brendan Eich while working at Netscape Communications.
It was developed in just 10 days and was originally called Mocha, then LiveScript, before being
renamed to JavaScript to capitalize on the popularity of Java.
3. Early Years and Standardization
JavaScript quickly became popular but suffered from compatibility issues among different browsers.
In 1997, the language was standardized under the name ECMAScript by ECMA International.
4. Rise with AJAX (2005)
AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) allowed web pages to update asynchronously without
reloading.
This led to more dynamic and responsive web applications and increased JavaScript's popularity.
5. Modern JavaScript (ES6 and Beyond)
In 2015, ECMAScript 6 (ES6) introduced major updates like arrow functions, classes, template
literals, and modules.
Subsequent versions added async/await, optional chaining, and many more powerful features.
6. JavaScript Today
JavaScript is now used on the front-end, back-end (Node.js), desktop (Electron), and even mobile
apps (React Native).
It remains one of the most widely used and versatile programming languages in the world.
