Introduction Flow Process Chart
DEFINETION
A Flow Process Chart is a graphical representation of the sequence of steps
involved in a process. It visually displays operations, inspections, transportation,
delays, and storage using standardized symbols. These charts are widely used in
industrial engineering, manufacturing, and process improvement to analyze and
optimize workflows.

 Purpose of a Flow Process Chart

To visualize the entire process step-by-step.

To identify inefficiencies, redundancies, and delays.

To improve productivity by eliminating unnecessary steps.

To serve as a documentation tool for training and process standardization.

1.Operation (●) – A process step where a transformation occurs.

2. Inspection (⬤) – A step where quality or quantity is checked.

3. Transport (→) – Movement of material or workers.

4. Delay (D) – A waiting period or idle time.

5. Storage (▭) – A step where material is kept for future use.

 Types of Flow Process Charts

a) Man Type – Focuses on the movements and activities of workers.

A Man Type Flow Process Chart is a graphical representation of all the
activities (such as operations, transportation, delays, inspections, and
storage) performed by a worker in a process. It helps analyze and improve
work efficiency by identifying unnecessary movements and delays.

b) Material Type – Tracks the movement and processing of materials.

A Material Type Flow Process Chart is a graphical representation of the
movement of materials within a manufacturing or production system. It
shows how raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products flow
through various operations, inspections, storages, and transportations.

c) Equipment Type – Analyzes the sequence of operations performed by

machines.
A Equipment Type Flow Process Chart is a process chart that illustrates
the flow of equipment through different stages of a production or
assembly operation. It helps identify inefficiencies, reduce delays, and
optimize equipment utilization.
