Report:
The ACM Student Chapter of the Department of Information Technology,
Velammal Institute of Technology, organized an innovative event titled Design
Thinking, aimed at enhancing creativity and problem-solving skills. The event
encouraged participants to reflect on real-life problems they personally faced and
present thoughtful, user-centric solutions using the design thinking process.
Purpose of the Event:
The primary purpose was to introduce students to the structured
methodology of design thinking, helping them apply this approach to real-life
problems through:
❖ Empathy-based observation
❖ Problem definition
❖ Ideation and prototyping
Effective communication of solutions Event Overview:
The Design Thinking event provided a platform for participants
to present ideas inspired by real problems they’ve encountered in their daily lives.
These could be academic struggles, social issues, or personal inconveniences.
Through guided steps empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test students
applied the principles of design thinking to turn problems into opportunities for
innovation..
Event Highlights:
❖ Students identified genuine personal problems and creatively
explored solutions.
❖ Discussions emphasized empathy-driven innovation.
❖ Collaborative interaction encouraged diverse perspectives.
❖ Ideas were shared openly, encouraging a solution-first mindset.
Objective:
To engage students in critical and creative thinking by applying the
structured design thinking process to real-life challenges and encourage them to
become proactive problem solvers.
Design Thinking in Action:
This section captures the active participation of students during the
Design Thinking event. Participants shared real-life problems, explained their
innovative ideas, and engaged in meaningful discussions with peers and
mentors.

Outcome:
The event was a great success in:
➢ Enhancing awareness of the design thinking process.

Conclusion:
The Design Thinking event proved to be a valuable experience for all
involved, encouraging students to view challenges as opportunities for
innovation. We extend our sincere gratitude to our Principal, Head of the
Department of Information Technology, and the ACM Student Chapter for their
continuous support and encouragement in making this event a success.
