1. INTRODUCTION
Water related issues have persisted for a long amount of time. Most people
don’t get prior information related to flood and water management so a
platform is required to provide details of water-problems around them. The
problem within disaster management isn’t a lack of technology or existence
of the relevant information. It is often the lack of accessibility of the
information. Therefore, the means of identifying, locating, accessing data
is the most important matter.
The main focus should be on creating a platform that provide key
access to crucial information about issues related to floods and water
management which involves developing a user interface that provides quick
data collecting, simple and information sharing in real time.
1.1. Project Overview
The Jal Sanket app aims to crowdsource water-related problems such as
floods, leaks, breaks, and contamination of water, from around a
community, open-source data, etc, and displays all these sources on the
map. The app is expected to categorize water-related problems at different
administrations and should serve as a valuable tool for planning and
managing water-related problems. The exact location of the affected areas
plotted on the map could be accessed by the government or other NGOs to
resolve the problems.
2. LITERATURE SURVEY
Roger Tomlinson et. al. [1] developed Geographic Information System
(GIS) which is extensively used in managing-water related information by
providing important information about water resources, quality and
distribution.

4. OBJECTIVES
The objective is to crowdsource and address various water related issues
like contamination of water, floods, water-pipe breaks. Along with
uploading issues, Jal Sanket users would also be able to pinpoint the
location of these issues on a map. The platform would facilitate timely
responses and resolution of user issues would greatly reduce wastage of
user’s time as they just have to upload any issue on map instead of going to
government bodies and standing in long queues. The application is
committed to improving water quality and sustainable water management
practices within communities.
The platform facilitates for quick and effective communication
between community members and relevant authorities to respond to the
relevant reported water problems. The application provides an actionable
insight to authorities through the collected data, enabling data into broader
water management strategies. It would be able to predict the location on
map with higher frequency of water problems which could be accessed by
the authorities for decision making.
5. METHODOLOGY
The application will be developed according to waterfall model of SDLC.
An integrated mapping tool would be used to display water-related issues
on a map. Different APIs would be used for user to report problems and
view existing reports on the map. A robust database to store information
about water-related problem, geographical data, user profiles, and reports.
Emergency Response features such as real-time updates and emergency
contact information would be provided on the platform. Machine learning
feature would be used to predict the location of hotspots.
6. DELIVERABLES
A user-friendly platform would be developed which will provide a real-time
geographical data of water related problems on a map. The map will also
show the predicted locations of hotspot of water problems.
The geo-located data would be useful for the authorities and
communities to tackle issue of water management. The user would also be
able to report water related problems in their locality.
7. EXPECTED TIMELINE
Expected timeline for the project divided into five-week interval i.e. from
January 14th to February 17th using a waterfall model.
7.1. Week 1(Jan 14th – Jan 20th): Planning and Research
Define detailed project requirements and specifications.
Research and gather open-source data on water-related issues.
Develop a comprehensive project plan.
Key Milestone: Project scope and technical requirements finalized by the
end of week 1.
7.2. Week 2(Jan 21th – Jan 27th): Design and Architecture
Design the app’s user interface and map functionalities.
Determine server infrastructure requirements and setup.
Key Milestone: Key features like map integration and user interface of the
project are done.
7.3. Week 3(Jan 28th – Feb 3rd): Development Phase
Implement the front-end and back-end of the web application.
Begin integrating crowdsourcing functionalities and basic map display.
Key Milestone: Completion of the basic functionality for users to report
water-related issues and visualize them on map interface.
