Section – A

Answer any FIVE of the following questions. Each question carries 5 marks (5 x 5 =
25 Marks)

1. Discuss about various characteristics of computers.


o Speed: Computers perform tasks much faster than humans.
o Accuracy: They provide accurate results if the input is correct.
o Automation: Once programmed, they work automatically.
o Versatility: Can perform a variety of tasks.
o Storage: Store vast amounts of data for future use.
o Connectivity: Facilitate communication across networks.
2. What are the characteristics of a good programming language?
o Simplicity: Easy to learn and understand.
o Efficiency: Executes quickly and uses resources effectively.
o Portability: Runs on various platforms without modification.
o Modularity: Supports the development of modular programs.
o Scalability: Handles increasing amounts of data effectively.
o Robustness: Handles errors and exceptions gracefully.
3. Explain MS Word window components with a neat diagram.

o Generations:
 First Generation (1940-1956): Vacuum tubes; large and slow.
 Second Generation (1956-1963): Transistors; faster and smaller.
 Third Generation (1964-1971): Integrated Circuits (ICs);
efficient.
 Fourth Generation (1971-Present): Microprocessors; personal
computers.
 Fifth Generation (Present-Future): AI and quantum computing.

(B) Illustrate block diagram of computer and explain its components.

o Input Unit: Accepts data from the user.


o Processing Unit (CPU):
 Control Unit (CU): Directs operations.
 Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU): Performs calculations.
o Memory Unit: Stores data temporarily or permanently.
o Output Unit: Displays results to the user.
10. (A) What is software? Explain various types of computer software.
o Definition: Set of programs to perform tasks.
o Types:
 System Software: OS and utility programs.
 Application Software: Specific tasks (e.g., MS Word).
 Programming Software: Tools for developers (e.g., compilers).

(B) What is Operating System? Discuss about some popular Operating


Systems.

o Definition: Software managing hardware and software resources.


o Examples:

o i) Drop Caps: Enlarges the first letter of a paragraph.
o ii) Bullets & Numberings: Organizes content in lists.

(B) What is mail merge? Explain about mail merge in MS Word.

o Mail Merge: Combines a document with a data source.


o Steps:
 Create main document.
 Link to a data source.
 Insert merge fields.
 Preview and finalize.
12. (A) What is a spreadsheet? Discuss features of MS Excel spreadsheet.
o Definition: Grid of rows and columns for data analysis.
o Features:
 Formulas and functions.
 Data sorting and filtering.
 Chart creation.
 Pivot tables.

(B) Explain about creating charts in MS Excel. Also discuss various types of
charts.
o Steps:
 Select data.
 Choose chart type.
 Customize and insert.
o Types:
 Bar, Line, Pie, Scatter, etc.
13. (A) Illustrate creating a PowerPoint presentation.
o Open PowerPoint.
o Choose a template.
o Add slides.
o Insert content (text, images).
o Customize with animations.

OR

(B) Explain about deleting, duplicating, and rearranging slides using slide
sorter view in MS PowerPoint.

o Deleting: Select slide and press delete.


o Duplicating: Right-click slide > Duplicate Slide.
o Rearranging: Drag and drop slides to reorder.
