Making An Image of The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index
Making An Image of The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index
I. INTRODUCTION
• This photograph's green vegetation quantity is expressed
using a mathematical combination of the red and near-
infrared bands.
• The formula : NDVI=NIR-RED/NIR+RED
• Red corresponds to the red channel or band, while NIR
stands for the near-infrared channel or band. The result
obtained from this equation typically falls within a scale
of -1 (usually indicating water) to +1 (indicating robust
vegetation growth).
II. DATA SOURCE
• USGS Earth Explorer
III. MAKING AN NDVI IMAGE
• Start Multispectral Software. Fig. 2. Data transformation and formula apply.
• Pick Open Image from the File menu. As illustrated in Fig.
1, a dialog box will open, and the photos will be inserted.
•
• Fig. 2 shows how an algebraic combination is now
expressed :
• NDVI = O+1.OC3-1.OC2 /1.OC2+1.OC3 *1
• To confirm the provided algebraic transformation, press
the OK button. This will cause the "Set Reformat
Transform Parameters" dialog box to close, returning you
to the "Image File Format Change" window. You can then
navigate back to the "Options" dialog box at the top.
• Choose “32-bit Real” from the Data value type popup
menu in the “Image File Format Change Options” dialog
box, as illustrated in Fig. 3
