Question: 1

The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about energy consumption in the USA since
1980, with projections until 2030.
Answer:
The given line graph indicates the data from a report of 2008 regarding consumption of energy in the
United States of America from 1980 to 2025 and is forecasted till 2030.
In the beginning, the diagram shows that Petrol and Oil, Natural Gas and Coil were responsible for the
most use of energy in United States whereas Nuclear, Solar/Wind and Hydropower used the fewer energy
which is less than 5 quadrillion units. Regardless of these uses, Nuclear, Solar/Wind and Hydropower are
expected to be neither more nor less in 2030.
Analyzing the chart thoroughly, Petrol and Coal experienced the highest use of energy at the initiation
which saw upward slope being around 45 quadrillion units in 2025 and then increased gradually along
with the prediction to the point of 50 quadrillion units in 2030, followed by Natural Gas and Coal. It is
observed exactly 20 and 16 quadrillion units respectively in 1980 increasing a significant use of energy
till 2015 and is presumed to be 30 quadrillion units for Coal and 25 quadrillion units for Natural Gas in
2030.
Finally, Nuclear, Solar/Wind and Hydropower all presented around 4 quadrillion units in 1980 and
fluctuated up till 2010 and is forecasted that Nuclear will reach 10 quadrillion units by 2030 and
Solar/Wind around 5 quadrillion units, with Hydropower going down and resisting at approximately 2
quadrillion units.

Question: 2
The line graph below shows the consumption of 3 different types of fast food in Britain from 1970
to 1990.
Answer:
The line chart indicates the consumption of 3 types of fast food by people in Britain between 1970 and
1990.
Overall, we can witness that in the initiation Pizza is leading among 3 different types of fast food by
reaching the point of 300 grams whereas, Hamburger, Fish and Chips are at low point of their cycle
amounting below 100 grams in 1970.
Similarly, we can see the trend reversal from 1975 where Pizza started to decline sharply, crossing Fish
and Chips in 1981 and Hamburger in 1987 and resisting at point of 200 grams in 1990. However, we can
experience from the graph that Hamburger, Fish and Chips has seen a strong uptrend from 1975 where
Fish and Chips is leading all 3 types of fast food and has reached the highest point of 500 grams by 1990.
Analyzing the remaining chart, Hamburger has also been loved by people from 1975 but steadily, after
1985 Hamburger has also fluctuated upside with a big margin and found a space at 300 grams in 1990.
Therefore, we can see the reversal pattern between Pizza, Hamburger, Fish and Chips where Pizza has
experienced a downturn and Hamburger and Fish and Chips have an upturn and Fish and Chips are the
leaders among these 3 types of fast food in Britain.

Band 7+ Model Answer:

The line graph illustrates the consumption of three types of fast food—Hamburgers, Fish and Chips, and
Pizza—by people in Britain between 1970 and 1990, measured in grams.
Overall, Fish and Chips was the most popular fast food by the end of the period, showing a strong upward
trend. In contrast, Pizza experienced a steady decline, while Hamburger consumption increased
significantly, especially after 1975.
In 1970, Pizza was the most consumed fast food, with a figure just below 300 grams. Fish and Chips
followed with approximately 100 grams, and Hamburgers were the least consumed, at about 20 grams.
However, the trends shifted over the years.
From 1975 onward, the consumption of Fish and Chips began to rise steadily, reaching a peak of 500
grams by 1990, making it the most consumed item among the three. Hamburger consumption also saw a
notable rise, especially from 1980 onwards, climbing to around 300 grams in 1990.
On the other hand, Pizza consumption declined consistently after 1975, falling to around 200 grams by
the end of the period. This reversal in trend meant that by 1990, Pizza had become the least popular
among the three fast food options.
