ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: -
For UG:
Year 1
For most subjects we require 70% overall in year 12 state board high
school examinations and at least 70% in the relevant subjects. For
example if you want to study Chemical Engineering, you would need to
have 70% in both Maths and Chemistry.
For Computer Science programs we require 65% overall in year 12 state
board high school examinations with 65% for Maths.
For Mathematics we require 70% overall in year 12 state board high
school examinations with 70% for Maths.
For Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics we require 75% overall in year
12 state board high school examinations with 80% for Maths.
For students taking the West Bengal State board examinations, the pass
mark we require is 65%.

Year 2
Students who have scored highly in year 12 (80%+) may be admitted
directly into year 2 of our degree programmes. Those looking to
take Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics will also require 85% for Maths.
Entry into 2nd year Computer Science is not usually possibly.
Students looking to study Mathematics may be able to gain 2nd year entry
with 75% overall average with Maths at 75%.
English language requirements
75% or above in English in year 12 state board high school
examinations (no requirement for an external English test)
For PG:
For most of our Masters level programmes we require a good first
degree in a relevant subject. From most Indian Universities, this
means an overall score of 55% or above.
We will consider students whose grades are slightly lower than this
(52% or above) Universities of Delhi/ Mumbai/ Calcutta/ Madras/
Pune/ Bangalore/ Rajasthan and this will depend on other factors,
such as any relevant work experience, the quality of the references
you can provide etc.
English language requirements
If students can provide evidence that the medium of instruction at their
previous institution was English this satisfies our English language entry
requirements.

For direct entry to year 3 of our BA (Hons) Fashion
Communications and BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing and
Retailing programmes only, please apply online .
All other applications to undergraduate degree programmes at the UK
campuses of Heriot-Watt University, whether from the UK or overseas,
should be made online through the Universities & Colleges Admissions
Service (UCAS)
UCAS application is completed in 10 steps:
1. Registration: registering to use the UCAS Apply service
2. Personal details: your name, address, date of birth, contact details,
nationality, residential status and an outline of any disabilities
3. Additional information (UK applicants only): additional details about any
non-examination-based activities you have taken in preparation for higher
education
4. Choices: a list of the programmes, and the universities and colleges that
you are applying to
5. Education: details of where you have studied and which qualifications you
are taking/have taken
6. Employment: details of your work history and employers
7. Personal statement: a statement that tells us why you are applying for the
programme(s) you’ve chosen and why we should want you as a student
8. Reference: a reference from a tutor, careers adviser or other professional
who knows you
9. Declaration: confirming that the information you’ve given is correct and
agreeing to use the UCAS Apply service
10.Pay and send: paying the application fee online using a credit or debit
card
For PG
Apply for all postgraduate programmes using our online application form. Create
an account to use the online application form. You don't have to complete the
application in one session; you can save what you have done so far and return
to complete it at a later date.

FOR UG :
All applications to Heriot-Watt University are carefully considered. We take into
account your personal statement and reference as well as your grades. We will
make one of the following responses to you through UCAS:
an unconditional offer, (you have achieved the entry requirements)
a conditional offer (you need to achieve specified entry requirements
before you are accepted)
no offer - we will inform you that your application has been unsuccessful
this time. This does not prevent you from applying again in a subsequent
year.
Responding to our offers
The deadline for you to respond to your offers will be displayed on your UCAS
Track. Please ensure that you respond by the deadline stated.
Many candidates will receive dual offers for both first and second year entry.
Candidates who decide to accept a secondary offer can have their main offer
updated at UCAS.
FOR PG:
All applications will be carefully considered by appropriate staff in the relevant
school and you will receive a response as soon as possible. For some
programmes, where the volume of applications is very high, this may be several
weeks but for most programmes, you should hear from us within 2-6 weeks.
The response that you receive from the School will be either:
an unconditional offer
a conditional offer (further supporting documentation will be required,
such as a copy of your degree certificate if you had not completed your
degree when you first submitted your application)
regretfully, a decision to reject your application
You will be able to view our decision by logging into your application
account . If you receive an offer, please respond to it as soon as possible.
Once you have accepted your place you will be sent a confirmation letter,
which you may use to help you obtain an entry visa to the UK (if you need
one) or to obtain funding for your studies.
Information about how to register in September will be available during
the summer.
UNIVERSITY PAYMENT DETAILS:
All students have to pay tuition fees for their study. Your tuition fees will be paid
by:
you (this is called self-financing)
a sponsor organisation (for example, your employer)
a funding body (for example, the SLC, Student Finance or SAAS)
Tuition fees paid by a sponsor or funding body
If any of your tuition fees are being paid by a sponsoring organisation or funder,
you must send the letter from your sponsor or funder that confirms this
to [email protected] . Until the University has this letter you are liable for
paying all your fees yourself.
If only some of your fees are being paid by a sponsoring organisation or funder
you must pay the rest of your fees yourself.
If you are funded or sponsored, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have
applied for funding or sponsorship for each year of your study.
Self-financing
If you are a self-financing student, you must pay all your fees yourself.
There are several ways to pay:
In full, within 30 days of the start of your programme, with a credit or debit card
using the University's secure online payment facility . No charge is made for this
service but, if your bank account is not a GBP account, your bank will convert
the account currency to GBP when the transaction is made and your bank may
charge you for this.
In 6 equal monthly instalments from October to March using the University's
secure online payment facility. No charge is made for this service but you must
set it up by the closing date.
Apply for CAS (CERTIFICATE OF ACCEPTANCE OF
STUDIES): -
Your confirmation of acceptance for study (CAS) letter will be
provided by Heriot-Watt University provided you have completed
a CAS request form , and will contain a unique CAS number and
relevant programme details. You can use a print out of this letter
and do not require the original. Please check that all of the
information detailed on your CAS is correct, as this cannot be
changed after the visa is issued.
The total maintenance and outstanding fees amount must be held
as a minimum balance in the account for at least 28 days without
dipping below the required amount.
More than one bank statement can be used, however they must be
personal bank accounts, and show the same date range.

Degree certificates, transcripts and English test results. If they are not in

APPLY FOR VISA: -
The most common reason for a visa refusal is not meeting the financial
requirements. You are required to hold tuition fees and maintenance for a
period of 28 days and the University will ask to see your documentation
prior to issuing a CAS letter.
