APPLIED PHYSICS-2

ASSIGNMENT

1. Equation of a particle executing simple harmonic motion is x=4(cosπt+sinπt).What is its

(a) amplitude (b) maximum velocity (c) maximum acceleration.
2. Draw a ray diagram of a compound microscope. Write the expression for its magnifying
power.
3. A galvanometer of resistance 50Ω gives full scale deflection when a current of 500 µA
passes through it. It is to be converted into a voltmeter reading up to 10 V. Explain how this
can be done?
4. Two point charges A and B, having charges +Q and –Q respectively, are placed at certain
distance apart and force acting between them is F. if 25% charge of A is transferred to B,
then what will be the force between them.
5. A proton enters a uniform magnetic field of strength 0.500 T with a velocity of 2.0×105 m/s.
The magnetic field is directed along the Y-axis and the velocity is directed along X-axis. Find
the magnitude of the force acting on the proton and its acceleration. (Charge of
proton=1.6×10-19 C, mass of proton=1.67×10-27kg).
6. Draw the typical input and output characteristics of an n-p-n transistor in CE configuration.
Show how these characteristics can be used to determine (i) the input resistance (r i) and
(ii)current amplifier factor (β).
7. A straight wire carrying current of 12A is bent into a semi-circular arc of radius 0.02 m. Find
the magnitude of the magnetic field at the centre of the arc.
8. Define population inversion. Discuss some methods to achieve population inversion.
9. Draw the energy level diagram of He-Ne Laser.
10. Two thin lenses of power +4D and -2D are in contact. What is the focal length of the
combination?
11. A wire of 1Ω is stretched to double its length. What is the new resistance?
12. A spring of force constant k is cut into three equal parts. What is the force constant of each
part? Find out change in time period of oscillation.
