Installation and Configuration


Guide for Windows Server 2022
This guide provides a step-by-step process for installing and configuring Windows Server 2022.

1. System Requirements

Before installing, ensure your system meets the following minimum requirements:

 Processor: 1.4 GHz 64-bit processor (2 GHz or faster recommended)


 RAM: 2 GB (for Desktop Experience) or 512 MB (Server Core)
 Storage: 32 GB minimum (recommended 60 GB or more)
 Network: Ethernet adapter with Gigabit capability
 Firmware: UEFI with Secure Boot (recommended)

2. Installation Process
Step 1: Create a Bootable USB or DVD
1. Download the Windows Server 2022 ISO from Microsoft’s official
website.
2. Use Rufus or Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable
USB drive (at least 8GB).
Step 2: Boot from the Installation Media
1. Insert the bootable USB/DVD into your server.
2. Restart and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F2, F12, DEL, or ESC).
3. Set the USB/DVD as the primary boot device and save changes.
4. Restart to begin installation.

Step 3: Install Windows Server 2022


1. Select Language, Time, and Keyboard input method, then
click Next.
2. Click Install Now.
3. Choose the Windows Server 2022 edition you want:
 Standard (Desktop Experience) – Includes GUI.
 Standard (Server Core) – Minimal installation, command-line
only.
4. Accept the license agreement and click Next.
5. Choose Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced).
6. Select the disk partition and click Next. (Format if needed.)
7. The installation will proceed and restart the system when done.

3. Initial Configuration
Step 1: Set Up Administrator Account
1. After reboot, create a strong administrator password.
2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to log in.

Step 2: Configure Network Settings


1. Open Server Manager → Click Local Server.
2. Click Ethernet → Change adapter settings.
3. Right-click your network adapter → Select Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) → Click Properties.
5. Set a static IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS
servers.
6. Click OK → Close all windows.
Step 3: Rename the Server
1. Open Server Manager → Click Local Server.
2. Click the current Computer Name.
3. Click Change → Enter a new server name.
4. Click OK, then Restart the server.

Step 4: Enable Remote Desktop


1. Open Server Manager → Click Local Server.
2. Click Remote Desktop → Select Enabled.
3. Click Apply and OK.

Step 5: Activate Windows Server


1. Open Settings → Click Update & Security → Activation.
2. Enter the product key and activate Windows.

4. Installing Server Roles and Features


Step 1: Open Server Manager
1. Click Manage → Select Add Roles and Features.
2. Choose Role-based or feature-based installation → Click Next.
3. Select the server from the list → Click Next.

Step 2: Choose Server Roles


 Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) – For domain controller
setup.
 DNS Server – For domain name resolution.
 DHCP Server – For automatic IP assignment.
 File and Storage Services – For file sharing.
 IIS (Internet Information Services) – For web hosting.

Step 3: Install Selected Roles


1. Select the required roles → Click Next.
2. Add necessary features when prompted.
3. Click Install → Wait for installation to complete.
4. Restart the server if required.
5. Windows Updates and Security
1. Open Settings → Click Update & Security → Windows Update.
2. Click Check for updates and install available updates.
3. Configure Windows Defender Firewall for security.
4. Set up Windows Defender Antivirus.

6. Additional Configurations
 Join the Server to a Domain (if applicable).
 Configure User Accounts and Permissions via Active Directory.
 Set Up File Sharing and NTFS Permissions for shared folders.
 Backup Configuration using Windows Server Backup.
