E-crimes are difficult to stop due to anonymity, jurisdiction issues, evolving techniques, limited resources, and user behavior vulnerabilities. Online shoppers can secure transactions by using strong passwords, shopping on secure websites, avoiding unencrypted channels, and keeping software updated. Digital signatures enhance E-commerce security by verifying seller authenticity, ensuring data integrity, and providing non-repudiation for transactions.

ASSIGNMENT 3

GROUP ASSIGNMENT

GROUP O

1. Explain why E crimes are difficult to stop.

 Anonymity: Cybercrimes can exploit the internet’s anonymity to mask their
identities and locations, making it challenging to tract and apprehend them.
 Jurisdiction issues: Cybercrime often transcends physical borders, creating
jurisdictional complexities. International cooperation and agreements are crucial for
effective enforcement, but these can be slow and cumbersome.
 Evolving techniques: cybercrimes constantly develop new methods to bypass
security measures, requiring continuous adaptation and investment in
countermeasures.
 Limited resources: Law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity companies often
face resource limitations, making it difficult to keep pace with the evolving threats.
 User behavior: Human error and lack of awareness about online security practices
can inadvertently create vulnerabilities that cybercriminals exploit.

2. What sorts of precautions should online shoppers use to secure their transactions.
 Use strong, unique passwords and enable two factor authentication.
 Shop on secure websites with HTTPs and padlock icons.
 Never share personal or financial information over unencrypted channels.
 Beware of phishing emails and suspicious links.
 Keep your software and operating systems updated.
 Use a reputable antivirus and anti malware software.
 Review bank statements regularly for suspicious activity.
 Only use trusted payment methods and online platforms.
3. What are digital signatures and how can they be used to secure E commerce transactions.
Digital signatures act like electronic fingerprints, ensuring the authenticity and integrity of
digital information.
They can be used in E commerce transactions in several ways;
 Verifying seller authenticity: Customers can confirm the legitimacy of seller’s digital
certificate before making a purchase.
 Data integrity: Digital signatures ensure that data transmitted online [ e.g; order
details, payment information] has not been tampered with during transit.
 Non repudiation: Both buyers and sellers can prove their involvement in a
transaction, minimizing disputes and fraud.
