C. Presentation Linear Equation in Two Variables.

So, what do you think is our lesson for today

class?

Very Good!

For today’s discussion, these are the objectives,

At the end of the lesson, you should be able to;

a. Illustrate linear equations in two

variables
b. Determine if an ordered pair is a
solution of a given linear equation.

A linear equation in two variables is an

What is linear equation in two variables base equation that can be written in the standard
from the given equation Ax + By = C form Ax + By = C, where A, B, C are real
numbers, And A and B are not both zero.

Wow, Excellent!

C. Discussion

You have worked on the solution of

equations. Now, you will find the solutions of
linear equations in two variables.

Let’s try to solve these given examples.

Determine whether or not each equation is

linear equation in two variables. If so, identify
A, B, and C.

a. 5x=15-y

Solution:

Write the equation in standard form.

5x=15-y

5x+y=15

The equation is now written in the form

Ax+By=C. Thus, A=5, B= 1, and C =15

So, 5x=15-y is a linear equation in two

variables.

Okay, next is we are going to determine if the

given ordered pairs are a solution of 5x+y=15
a. (2,5) b. (1,10)

Solution:

a. Substitute 2 for x and 5 for y.

5x+y=15
5(2) + (5) = 15
10+5=15 15 ma’am
15=15
Is it true that 15 = 15? Yes ma’am!
Very good!
That means that ordered pair (2,5) are
solutions of linear equation 5x+y=15

b. Substitute 1 for x and 10 for y.

5x+y=15
5(1) + (10) = 15
5+10=15 15 ma’am
15=15
Is it true that 15=15? Yes ma’am!
Wow! Excellent!
So, that means that ordered pair (1,10)
are solutions of linear equation
5x+y=15

Now, how about x=8-3y?

Okay let us try?

Write the equation in standard form?

x=8-3y
Yes, _______ can you write it on the board?
x+3y=8.

0kay very good! It is x+3y=8.

equation is now written in Ax+By=C.

A=1 ma’am
Thus, A= ?
B= 3 ma’am
How about B ?
C= 8 ma’am
How about C?

Very good, A= 8, B= 3, and C=8

Okay, next is we are going to determine if the

given ordered pairs are a solution of x+3y=8.

a. (2,2) b. (-1, 3) c. (-2, -2)

Solution:

c. Substitute 2 for x and 2 for y.

x+3y=8
2+3(2) =8
2+6=8 8=8 ma’am
8=8
Since 8=8, the pair (2,2) is a solution. Yes ma’am.
d. Substitute -1 for x and 3 for y.
x+3y=8
-1+3(3) =8 8=8
What is -1+9=8 ?
Okay very good 8=8

Since 8=8, is pair (-1,3) a solution? Yes ma’am

Okay very good.

Do you want another example class?

Ok. Here’s another example.

Now can you try if pair (-2, -2) is a solution to

x+3y=8 class?

Okay do it on your notebook.

Are you done class? Yes ma’am.

Okay, Let’s check. ______, can you write Replace x with -2 and y with -2.
your answer on the blackboard.
x+3y= 8

-2+ 3(-2)=8

-2+(-6)= 8
Okay, Excellent!
-8=8

No ma’am.
So, is pair (-2, -2) solution to x+3y=8
Ma’am since -8 is not equal to 8, the pair (-2, -
May I ask why? 2) is not a solution

Very good.

Now, based from our discussion, what is a Solutions of a linear equation are ordered pairs
solution of linear equations in two variables? that make the equation true.

.
Wow! You are so brilliant class!
D. Application

Now, bring out your white board and marker

class, and answer the following questions with
your group. The group who will get the correct
answer will receive 2 points.

Now, let’s have a group activity entitled

had the COVID 19 Pandemic started?”

Very good class! Wuhan is the city in China

where COVID 19 started. Because of COVID
19, there are many things that we have not able
to do because we are trapped in our house. Just
like your studies I know that many of you had
difficulties in online class and modular
learning. But I salute you because the
pandemic did not become an obstacle for you
to continue your studies no matter how
difficult it is. But after two years, by God’s
grace, we are still here, continuing to fight and
gradually rising.

E. Generalization Answers may vary.

Is everything clear now? Let's try to sum up
what we just learned.

What is linear equation class?

Ma’am a linear in two variables is an equation
that can be written in the standard form
Ax+By=C, where A, B, and C are real
numbers, and A and B are not both zero.
Brilliant! What is a solution of a linear
equation?
Solution of a linear equation are ordered pairs
that make the equation true ma’am.
Very Good!

F. VALUING

Now, how can you relate linear equation in two

Ma’am you can use linear equation to
variables in your life? Anyone who can share
determine the cost of whatever taxi trip in your
their idea.
vacation without knowing how many miles it
will be to each location. For example, the
linear equation would be y=0.15x + 9 if “x”
represents the # of miles to your destination
and “y” represents the cost of that taxi fare.

Wow! You guys are all brilliant!

G. EVALUATION

To assess your understanding about our

lesson. Let's now have our last activity.

Find Me!
Students are busy answering.
Now, bring out your paper and answer
following problems. Answer it in 10 minutes.

I. Write each linear equation in

standard form.
1. 2x-13=-y
2. 4y-12= -5x
3. -4y=8-4x
II. Determine whether the given
ordered pair is a solution of the
given situation.
1. 4x+y=12; (1,8)
2. 3x - 4y=8 ;(4, 1)
III. Solve the following problems.
1. Roman’s age is three times the
sum of the ages of his two sons.
After 5 years his age will be
twice the sum of the ages of his
two sons. Find the age of
Roman.

Ok, your 10 minutes start now.

I. Write each linear equation in
Time’s up! standard form.
1. 2x-13 = -y
Who wants to write their answers on the
Answer: 2x + y =13
board?
2. 4y – 12 = -5x
Exchange papers for checking. Answer: 5x +4y = 12
3. -4y= 48 – 4x
Answer: 4x - 4y = 8
II. Determine whether the given
ordered pair is a solution of the
given situation.
1. 4x + y = 12 ; (1, 8 )
4(1) + (8) = 12
4+ 8 = 12
12= 12
(1,8) is a solution of equation
4x + y =12.
2. 3x – 4y = 8 ; (4, 1)
3(4) – 4(1) = 8
12 – 4= 8
8=8
(4,1) is a solution of equation
3x - 4y = 8.

III. 1.
Let x be Roman’s age and y be the
sum of ages of his two sons.
x = 3y----(1)

After 5 years;

Roman’s age = x +5
The sum of the ages of his two sons = y + 5+5
=y+10
X+5 = 2(y+10)
X+5= 2y+20
x-2y= 20 -5
x-2y= 15-------(2)
By applying the value of x in (2), we get
3y-2y =15
Y=15
X= 3(15)
X= 45
So Roman is 45 years old.
