Lesson Plan: Mindful Eating – A Path to

a Healthy Body
Subject: Science/Health & Wellness

Class: 6

Duration: 3 periods (35–40 minutes each)

Teaching Aids: Flashcards, food charts, videos on nutrition, worksheets

Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 Understand what mindful eating is.


 Identify the benefits of healthy eating.
 Recognize unhealthy eating habits.
 Learn how to make balanced food choices.
 Reflect on their own eating habits and improve them.

Period 1: Introduction to Mindful Eating

Topics Covered:
 What is Mindful Eating?
 Difference between Mindful and Mindless Eating
 Importance of eating slowly and paying attention to hunger signals

Activities:
 Show a short video on mindful eating (2–3 minutes).
 Class discussion on students’ favorite foods and how they eat them.
 Demonstration: Eating a raisin slowly and observing it using all five senses.

Homework:
Observe and Record Activity:

1. What did you eat?


2. Were you watching TV or using a mobile while eating?
3. How did the food taste, smell, and look?
4. Did you feel full or overfull after eating?
Period 2: Components of a Balanced Diet

Topics Covered:
 What is a Balanced Diet?
 Nutrients in food – Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, and Minerals
 Importance of Water and Fibre

Activities:
 Show a food pyramid or balanced plate diagram.
 Group Activity: Students classify food items into different nutrient groups using
flashcards.

Homework:
Food Diary Task:

Prepare a food diary for one day. Categorize each item into:

 Energy-giving food
 Body-building food
 Protective food

Example: Rice – Energy-giving; Milk – Body-building

Period 3: Healthy Eating Habits and Daily Routine

Topics Covered:
 Healthy Eating Habits (fixed meal times, eating fruits, drinking enough water)
 Limiting Junk Food
 Importance of Breakfast
 Connecting food choices to energy and mood

Activities:
 Discussion: “What happens when we skip breakfast?”
 Make a “Healthy Eating Pledge” poster as a class.
 Role-play on how to choose healthier options at school canteen or parties.

Homework:
Reflection Writing:

Write 5 changes you will make to improve your eating habits. Explain why these are
important for your body and mind.
