6 Protocol 1) CCITT Rec. T.30

2) Oki special protocol, short-cut protocol

In multi-page communication, the local transmitting
station can immediately start transmitting the
training for the next page after transmitting EOM
and upon reception of MCF from the distant
receiving station, instead of repeating all procedures
from the beginning of Phase B (which takes about six
seconds). (TF + 08)

3) Oki special protocol, high-speed protocol

The T.30 protocol signal from the transmitting
station is sent at message transmission speed instead
of 300 bps. (TF + 08)

TEUFAX automatic switching (except for FTZ version)

This function is used for the purpose of TEL/FAX automatic switching as follows.

(1) If the machine detects a call with a CNG signal indicating an auto send facsimile call,
it starts an automatic document receiving operation.

(2) If machine detects a call without a CNG signal, machine generates the buzzer sounds
as a telephone call. The calling person can hear a “ring back” tone within a
predetermined time.

If the operator at the called side does not lift the handset within the predetermined time,
the machine automatically starts a document receiving operation.
Voice conversation will automatically be available through the internal handset by lifting
up the handset while the call buzzer is sounding.

Note: In this mode, following four setting is required.

1: The predetermined time is selectable between 20 or 35 sec.
(Function program No. 10)

2: No ringing signal is sent to the external telephone handset.

3: A choice of voice message in 9 languages and disable (OFF) are available.

(Function program No. 21)

4: Choice of voice message sending level. The level is selectable form 0 to 15

dB in one dB step. (Technical Function No. 40)

For example - English

Voice Message 1: Please wait a moment.
Your call is being connected.

Voice Message 2: Sorry, there’s no reply at the moment. Please try later.
But, if you wish to send a FAX, please start the transmit
after the tone.

signal power level.
Adjusting value is 0 to 15 dB in one dB steps. /’

Since the basic send signal power level (dBm) ‘_

of the OKIFAX 1000 is 0 dBm, you can select 0

dBm to - 15 dBm in one dBm steps for the
send signal power level.
Note:
The send signal power level should meet your
country’s regulation. Some countries may
specify the input power level to a switching.
In that case, you should substruct the
specified level by the line cable attenuation
to determine the send level of your OKIFAX
1000. Figure 3.13.1 shows the non-loaded
cable attenuation.

equalizer) Definition:
Equalizing level is difference of gains of
equalized signal between 0.3 KHz and
3.4 KHz.
Note:
By this adjustment you can give the inversed
characteristics to the internal equalizer
against the characteristics of the non-loaded
cable.
Figure 3.13.1 shows the characteristics of the

6.22.1 Precautions

1. Points to check before correcting image troubles

(1) Is the printer being run in proper ambient conditions?

(2) Have the supplies (toner) and the routine replacement part (EP cartridge)
been replaced properly?

(3) Is the recording paper normal?

(4) Has the EP cartridge been loaded properly?

2. Tips for correcting image troubles

(1) Do not touch, or bring foreign matter into contact with, the surface of the
drum.

(2) Do not expose the drum to direct sunlight.

(3) Keep hands off the fuser unit as it is heated during operation.

(4) Do not expose the drum to light for longer than 5 minutes at room
temperature.

CHAPTER 7

MECHNICAL DISASSEMBLY AND

REASSEMBLY
This chapter explains the procedures for replacement of assemblies and units in the
field.

7.1 General

7.1.1 Precautions for Parts Replacement

(1) Before starting disassembly and reassembly, always turn the AC power switch
OFF, and pull out the AC p‘rug.

(2) Do not try to disassemble as long as the printer is operating normally.

(3) Do not remove unnecessary parts: Try to keep disassembly to a minimum.

(4) When disassembling, follow the prescribed sequence. Otherwise, parts may be
damaged.

(5) Since screws and small parts are likely to be lost, they should temporarily be
attached to their original positions.

(6) When handing items such as printed circuit boards, do not wear gloves that are
likely to generate static electricity.

(7) Using a wrist band connected to the ground will protect semiconductors on
printed circuit boards from the static electricity.

(8) Do not place printed circuit boards directly on the equipment or on the floor.

CHAPTER 8

BRIEF TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION

8.1 Fundamentals of the Electra-Photograph Process

The electro-photograph process involves of six sub-processes:

(1) Charging (2) Exposure (3) Development (4) Transfer
(5) Fusing (6) Cleaning

Each process is explained in general, below.

xess Description

1 The surface of the electro-

photographic (EP) drum is
uniformly charged with negative
Charge roller
charges by applying a negative
voltage to the charge roller.

When the DC voltage applied

from exceeds a threshold value,
charging begins.

2 Light emitted from the LED head

irradiates the negatively charged
surface of the EP drum. The
surface potential of the irradiated
part of the EP drum surface is
raised, so that an electrostatic
latent image associated with the
print image is formed.

Toner is attracted to the exposed

part (high-potential part) of the
EP drum at the contact between
the EP drum and the developing
roller, making the electrostatic
latent image visible.

At the same time, the residual

EP drum toner on the EP drum is attracted
to the developing roller by static
electricity.

8-l
?rocess Description

4 The recording paper is placed

over the EP drum surface, and a
positive charge, opposite in
polarity to the toner, is applied to
the reverse side of the paper from
the transfer roller. The toner is
$
E attracted by the positive charge
C? and is transferred to the paper.
l-
The toner charged negative that
is attracted to the EP drum surface
is transferred to the upper side of
the recording paper by the
positive charge on the lower side
of the paper.

Heater Heater roller

The unfused toner image is fused

on the paper under heat and
pressure as it passes between the
heater roller and the back-up
roller.

Residual toner on the EP drum is

attracted to the cleaning roller
temporarily by static electricity
the EP drum surface.
