The pond hockey tournament held February 18th and 19th was deemed a great suc- cess by organizers. Con- tributions made by the local community and independent businesses enable this fundraiser to continue. If we didnt have the Town provide the ice prep and we had to pay for the heat from Supe- rior Propane; it would never happen, Skate the Lake committee member, Dan Johnson remarked. We actually saw a bill one year for $2,600 for one weekend of propane heat and we havent paid a dime in six years. The Town of Minnedosa uses its equipment and re- sources to clear six small rinks on the lake each year and this year de- signed runways between each rink so players could get changed and skate right out to their respec- tive rinks. There were kids that put their skates on at 9:00 a.m. and never took them off all day, said Skate the Lake committee member, Wes Barrett. Thats a lot of work that those (Town) guys do, Johnson agreed. They got out on the ice in December and it was great. Over the last three years, Skate the Lake has donated $21,800 to MREC, with $8,000 do- nated in 2010 and $6,800 given last year. MREC rep- resentative, Bob Graham, expressed the Boards gratitude in receiving the donated funds. On be- half of MREC, thank you very much! We really ap- preciate this.
