Pattern

Chicken Body: use any colour you wish (I used grey)

R1: 6 sc in a MR (6)

R2: inc in all stitches (12)

R3: (1 sc, inc) x6 (18)

R4: (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

R5: (3sc, inc) x6 (30)

R6: (4sc, inc) x6 (36)

R7-8: Sc in all stitches x2 rounds (36)

R9: (4sc, inv dec) x6 (30)

Mark out 16 stitches from your hook backwards and push your hook through, do a sc
through this stitch to join both sides (see below)

**R10-12 are all in the small circle just created for the head**

R10: Sc around

R11: inv dec all around

R12: inv dec all around

Fasten off and leave a long tail to close the chicken

Stuff firmly! This gives the chicken its shape. Pull yarn tail through to the back of
the chicken head, with a needle sew both sides together all the way across to the
end, stuff more in the tail before closing and do a few extra threads through the tail to
make it pointier (shown below)

Swing: use any colour you wish (I used cream)

Starting R1 with a slip knot:

R1: ch 12, dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in remaining 10 ch

R2: ch 2, turn, dc in next 10 sts

R3: ch2, turn, dc in next 10 sts

fasten off and leave a long tail (this will be used to sew on the chicken to the swing)

R4: Do a slip knot on your hook, insert the hook into the shorter end of the rectangle
(help below), pull the yarn through to complete a slst, then ch 30

Your swing base should look like this! With a slip slip knot on your hook, insert the hook into
the shorter side of the rectangle, yarn over and slst.
Ch 30.

Fasten off and leave a long tail, repeat round 4 on the other side of the swing base.
You should now have 2 handles!
Weave in 3 ends (you should have 4), leaving 1 long tail from the swing to sew on
the chicken. Your swing is complete!

Assemble:

Thread chosen yarn colour for the beak with a yarn needle, sew the beak 2 stitches
wide, a row before the end of the head. Go over the beak a couple of times. (see
images below for reference)

Stitch the eyes on slightly above (or you can use safety eyes) and 1 stitch sideways
from mouth (see reference image above)

Slst into the back of the chicken’s head using your chosen head frill colour for R1
below:

R1: *ch 2, (2 dc into 1st chain), slst into the chicken further up towards the top of the
chicken head* repeat * * x2 till you have 3 lobes on the chicken’s head (see image
for placement below).

fasten off, push the tail through body to

secure.

Place the chicken on the swing with a

handle either side of the chicken, make
sure the chicken is in the centre of the
swing. Using the remaining long tail of the
swing, sew through the chicken and into
the swing to connect them together. Fasten
off and weave in the tail.

Thread your needle with the yarn colour you used for the chicken body to make the
arms attach to the swing handles. See images below for how to do this.
Line up the handles in a straight line, Pull needle through and repeat this Complete the same on the other
insert needle with yarn where you going back and forth through the side, ensuring both arms are on

the handle. Do this as much as you push in tail.
like (I do 5/6).

Finally, tie both handles together at the top evenly over where you wish to hang it,
and you’ve finished!

Congrats! You finished

your swinging chicken! I
hope you had fun making
them and I look forward to
seeing your creations.
