Topic: Chapter 1 – Introduction to Computers

1. What is a Test?
A test is a structured tool consisting of questions or tasks designed to assess a student's
knowledge, understanding, or skills in a specific subject area.

2. Test Construction
There are four major steps in test construction:

1. Planning
2. Preparation of the Test
3. Try Out
4. Evaluation

Step 1: Planning
What is to be measured?

The purpose of this test is to evaluate Grade 5 students' understanding of the basic concepts
of computers as covered in Chapter 1 – 'Introduction to Computers'.

Objectives of the Test:

- To assess students' knowledge of computer components and their functions.
- To evaluate their ability to differentiate between input, output, and storage devices.
- To check their understanding of how a computer system works as a whole.
- To enhance their critical thinking through application-based questions.
- To ensure alignment with the learning outcomes of the syllabus.

What type of content area should be included?

This test is focused on Chapter 1 of the computer textbook for Grade 5, covering:
- Basic definition and use of computers
- Input, processing, output, and storage devices
- Working mechanism of the computer system

What types of items are to be included?

According to Bloom's Taxonomy, the test includes:

- Knowledge & Understanding (MCQs)
- Comprehension & Application (Short Answer)
- Analysis & Synthesis (Long Answer)

Test Items Distribution:

Type of Item Number Marks per Item Total Marks

MCQs 6 1 6

SAQs 4 3 12

LAQs 2 6 12

Step 2: Preparation of the Test

Section A – MCQs (6 × 1 = 6 Marks)
- Clearly written, single-answer questions
- Targeting recognition of key components and definitions

Section B – SAQs (4 × 3 = 12 Marks)

- Require brief written explanations
- Emphasize comparison and usage understanding

Section C – LAQs (2 × 6 = 12 Marks)

- Application of knowledge through systems understanding and diagram drawing
- Require extended answers
