(b) Read Only Memory and Random-Access Memory
Random Access Memory (RAM) – is the main working
memory of a computer. When starting a computer, the
operating system is first loaded to the RAM so that the
computer can carry out all the functions that makes it work.
It holds data only when the computer is in use. It’s volatile,
meaning it losses stored information in case of power loss or
when a computer is turned off.
Read-Only Memory (ROM) – once data has been written
onto a ROM chip, it cannot be removed or altered, it can
only be read. This memory is used to store the instructions
that the computer needs to start up so that it can run a self-
check and detect attached equipment. Its non-volatile,
meaning it retains its contents even when the computer is
turned off.
(c) Software and Hardware: - Software refers to
programs associated with the operations of a computer
while Hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer.
Hardware is tangible while software is not.
(d) Input and output devices: -
Input device sends data to a computer system for
processing. Feed in data into the computer for processing
while, Output device reproduces or displays the results of
that processing. Give out or output information.
