LESSON 5

Basic Object creation & Modification

Learning Objectives
At the end of this lesson you must be able to
 Use draw commands( circle (TTR)
 Use modify commands fillet, array, mirror
 Use construction line
 Draw lines at an angle using Polar input
Hands on Drawing
 Complete the step by step tutorial
 Complete assignments
In this tutorial we will create the drawing shown below.

Launch AutoCAD and Start a New Drawing. Make sure your defin
defined
ed drawing area is suitable for this
exercise. Remember to ZOOM >ENTER> A > ENTER before you start drawing.
Set you Automatic save time to 10minutes command SAVETIME > ENTER 10 > ENTER
We will start by drawing two construction lines perpendicular to each other.

Click this icon to invoke the XLINE

command

1- Pick a point through which the line

will pass.

2- Pick 2nd point through which the line

will pass. Vertical line will be created

3- Pick 3rd point through which the

horizontal line will pass. Press ENTER to
create the horizontal line

The two construction lines will be created. Note that you will not be able to see the end points of
these construction lines.
Next we will draw the two circles.

Click here to invoke the circle command

Pick this point as centre of your circle

Pick the intersection of the two
construction lines as the centre point
for the second circle

Type 27.5 > ENTER (radius of the smaller circle)

We have completed the two circles as shown below.

To draw the small circles we first need to
locate their centre. We know that this centre
is at 60 mm from the centre of the main
circles and this centre line makes an angle of
30 degrees to the vertical construction line

1. To create this line. Type LINE >ENTER

2. Pick this point as the start point of

the LINE

3. Type @60 TAB 60 >ENTER

Type ENTER

Create a circle here and set the radius

as 18

Create another circle here
and set the radius as 10

Your drawing should look like this

Next we will create copies of the two small circles using the MIRROR command

Click the mirror icon to invoke the
MIRROR command

Select the two circles and press ENTER

Next select the mirror line by picking two points on that line. Does not need to be a real line. Any two
points will define a mirror line.

Your
our drawing should look like this. Do not erase source object.

Next we will create a the R14 fillets

Create a fillets here with radius 14 and

the opposite side

Click the FILLET icon as shown above

You are prompted to select the first object or Radius.
Type R and press ENTER (this tells AutoCAD that you want to enter set the radius value)
Type the fillet radius value,
14 >ENTER
You can now select the first object and the second object

First object select this. Pay attention

to the point that you pick on the
object for correct positioning of you
fillet .

Please select as shown on the diagram

Second object select this. Pay attention

to the point that you pick on the object
for correct positioning of you fillet

You fillet will be created like this.

Your drawing should now look like as shown below

We will create the arc with radius 17

Between these two circles. We will

use the circle command but we will
select the Tangent Tangent Radius
TTR option

Invoke the circle command, you can also type C and press ENTER

Instead of picking the center point for the circle, Type TTR and press ENTER

Pick this point

Type 17 and press ENTER.
Your drawing should look as below

Right click and select Repeat Circle and draw a similar circle at the bottom half. (use TTR option)

Your drawing will look as below. Next we will remove unwanted objects using the TRIM command

Remove these portions of the drawing
using the TRIM command

Using the TRIM command to remove all the unwanted portions.

Command: TRIM > ENTER > ENTER
This time we want every object to be a cutting edge so we will press enter twice to select all objects

Select all unwanted portions and press ENTER when done.

portions

Using TRIM command

select these two edges
as cutting edges

Remove these
portions

Your drawing should look as below

Next we will create a Pattern of 6

copies of the objects equally spaced
about a centre point

Command ARRAY or AR

This will be the centre point of the

Array

Select the objects to array (preselection)

Type the command: ARRAY > ENTER
Pick the centre point of the array as shown above.
Enter the number of copies to create (or angle in between)
Angle to fill = 360 degrees
