Lesson note for jss3

Week 1

Subject:basic technology

Grade: jss3

Topic:Fault detection

Sub topic: defination of fault detection and tools for fault detection

Duration: 45 minutes

Instructional materials: Educational videos and pictures explaining trouble shooting and tools for fault
detection

Behavioural objectives: By the end of the class the student would be able to

 Define fault detection

 Identify tools for fault detection (trouble shooting).

Reference: Basic technology for Junior Secondary school book 3 Adedokun S.A

Presentation:

Step 1: Teacher writes the date and topic fault detection on the board

Step 2 :Teacher ask student to if they have and idea on the topic and listen to their ideas

Step 3 :Teacher then define fault detection

Step 4:Teacher explains the meaning of trouble shooting

Step 5 :Teacher give student examples of tools used for fault detection

Step 6 :Teacher writes note on the board and tell student to copy note.

FAULT DETECTION

Fault detection in refers to the process of identifying and diagnosing errors, malfunctions, or
abnormalities in a system, device, or process to determine the cause and enable corrective action.
Examples include error messages on our phone and computers which indicate software or hardware
issues e.t.c

Tools for fault detection

Tools used for fault detection can be classified into several categories, including:

1. Electrical testing tools:

- Multimeters: A multimeter is used for measuring electrical properties such as voltage, current,
resistance, and continuity in electrical circuits and devices.

- Circuit testers: It is used to test the integrity of electrical circuits

- Oscilloscopes: they are used to analyse wave forms of electrical signals.

- Logic analyzers: it is used to capture and analyse digital systems in electronic devices.

2. Thermal analysis tools:

- Thermal imaging cameras: they help detect and visualizer heat patterns and temperature differences
in object or environment

- Infrared thermometers: Infrared thermometers are non-contact temperature measurement devices

that detect infrared radiation emitted by objects.

3. Mechanical testing tools:

- Vibration analysis tools: vibration analysis tools measure and analyze the vibration patterns of
machines and equipment helping to detect imbalance, misalignment e.t.c.

- Pressure gauges

4. Software-based tools:

- Diagnostic software:Diagnostic software is a tool used to identify and troubleshoot issues in

computer systems, networks, or devices, providing insights into performance, errors, and potential
problems.

- Network analyzers:Network analyzers are tools used to monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot network
traffic, performance, and issues to ensure network reliability, security, and efficiency.

5. Signal analysis tools:

- Signal generators: A signal generator is an electronic device that produces a wide range of electrical
signals with specific characteristics, used to test, measure, and troubleshoot electronic systems and
components.

- Spectrum analyzers: Spectrum analyzers are electronic instruments that measure and display the
frequency spectrum of signals, allowing users to analyze signal frequency, amplitude, and distortion.
These categories help group tools by their application and functionality, making it easier to select the
right tool for a specific fault detection task.

Evaluation: The teacher evaluates the the students by asking questions like

1. What fault detection is

2. Examples of different fault detection tools

Conclusion: the teacher concludes the class by summarising the topic again to the students and then
check note for correction and marking.

Week 2

Subject: basic technology

Grade: jss3

Topic: Basic electronics

Sub-topic: basic emissions theory and types of electronic devices

Instructional materials: picture of different electronic devices and videos explaining basic emissions
theory

Behavioural objective: By the end of the class the students will be able to

 State the basic emissions theory.

 Know the types of electronic devices.

Reference: Basic technology for Junior Secondary school book1 Adedokun S.A.
Presentation

Step 1: The teacher writes the date and topic on the board and revises previous lesson with the students

Step 2 :Teacher ask student to if they have and idea on the topic basic electronicsand listen to their
ideas

Step 3 :Teacher then define basic electronics

Step 4:Teacher explains the emissions theory

Step 5 :Teacher explains the type of electronic devices

Step 6 :Teacher writes note on the board.

BASIC ELECTRONICS

Basic electronics involves the study and application of fundamental principles and components, such as
voltage, current, resistance, and circuits, to understand and work with electronic systems and devices.

Electronic devices are machines or gadgets that use electrical energy to perform various functions, such
as:

- Computing and processing information

- Communicating and transmitting data

- Controlling and automating processes

- Entertainment and multimedia

- Medical diagnosis and treatment

- Measuring and monitoring physical parameters

Examples include smartphones, computers, televisions, radios, and many more.

Basic emission theory

The basic emission theory states that accelerated charged particles, such as electrons, emit
electromagnetic radiation.

The basic emission theory relates to basic electronics in understanding how electronic devices and
components interact with electromagnetic radiation.Understanding emission theory helps in designing
and optimizing electronic systems for performance and efficiency.
Types of electronic devices

Electronic devices can be categorized into various types, including:

- Consumer electronics (e.g., smartphones, TVs, laptops)

- Communication devices (e.g., radios, modems)

- Medical devices (e.g., pacemakers, MRI machines)

- Industrial control systems (e.g., PLCs, SCADA systems)

- Automotive electronics (e.g., navigation systems, engine control units)

- Wearable devices (e.g., smartwatches, fitness trackers)

- Home appliances (e.g., refrigerators, air conditioners)

These devices rely on electronic components and circuits to function.

Evaluation: The teacher evaluates the students by asking them

 Electronic devices are

 Types of electronic devices with examples.

Conclusion: the teacher concludes the class by summarising the topic again and then check the students
note for correction.
