1: SETTING THE LAYOUT OF THE PAGE FOR YOUR ASSIGNMENT

Word offers a variety of page layout and formatting options that effect how content appears on the page. You
can the customize the page orientation, page size, and page margins depending on how you want your
document to appear.

2: SET THE MARGINS OF THE PAGE

SEE PICTURE
A margin is the space between the text and edge of your document. By default, a new document’s margins are
the set to normal, which means it has a one-inch space between the text and each edge. Depending on your
need, word allow you to change you’re your document’s margin size. Word also allow you to customize the
size of your margins in the page setup dialog box. Set the margins as follows:

(Standard measure for the margin)

Top : 2.5cm
Bottom : 2.5cm
Left : 2.5cm (or 3.2cm)
Right : 2.5cm (or 3.2cm
3: SET ORIENTATION OF THE PAGE

4: SET SIZE OF THE PAGE


By default, the page size of the new documents is 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Depending on your project, you
may need to adjust your document’s page size. Word also allow you to customize the page size in the page
setup dialog box, set to A48.27” X 11.69” unless and otherwise specified.

Mostly use the size : A48.27” X 11.69”

Court use the size : Legal


5: SETTING STYLES

On the home tab, right click any styles in the styles gallery and click modify. In the formatting section, make
anu formatting changes you want such as font style, size or color alignment, line spacing or indentation
choose whether the style change applies to the current document or to all future documents. Word has
several style types:

Paragraph
Character
Linked
Table
List

6: FOR HEADINGS
Usually, the default is Calibri or Time New Roman, and the default font size is 11 or 12 point. To change the
default font attribute, find your version Microsoft Word on the list below and follow the instructions:

Always use the first three headings (1,2,3)

❖ H 1: Arial 14 pt. bold


❖ H2: Arial12 pt. bold, italic
❖ H3: Arial 10.5-11 pt. bold

It is the best practice for type word documents in font size14, and no smaller than font size 12, to assist
readers with visual impairments. Remember that no one font size will suit everyone. Make any desired
changes to the font style, font size & color heading in the formatting section. We can also apply bold, italic
and underline effects
7: SET THE HEADINGS STYLE

set the heading styles for you to work, you will have to:

❖ Click the small styles icon /button


❖ Select /highlight the styles to modify (e.g.H1), and then right click > Modify.
❖ Under formatting, you can change the font style and size as per you need.
❖ Click OK.

8: INSERTING SECTION BREAK, PAGE BREAK AND PAGE NUMBER

To insert the page break


Place your cursor at the foot of the title(cover) page.
Select the page layout tab>Breaks>page break>page.
Place your cursor at the foot of the Abstract page and repeat to make the break between the title
page and Abstract and Table of Contents.
Place a page break between the conclusion in the next section.

To Insert the section break

Position your cursor a at the end of the Table of contents. (Just have this as a heading; the actual table
will be added at the end.)
From the toolbar at the top of your document, open the page layout tab and select Break >Section
Breaks>Next page. Under section break types select Next Page.
A section break essentially splits your documents into different parts to allow you to apply complex
formatting to your document.
8: ADD THE PAGE NUMBER

For section 1:

❖ Place your cursor within the title page. Click on insert tab and then select page number in the
Header & Footer set of options.
❖ Select top of page > plain Number 3 (right alignment). Do not close the header and footer just yet.
❖ Check the box for different First page.
❖ Close the Header & Footer.

For section 2:
Go to the start of section 2 and double click on the existing page number.

In the Header & Footer option select on the toolbar, select page number > format page numbers
Select 1,2,3 from the number format drop – down list, under page numbering click on Start at the
radio button and set the start on page 1.
Click OK.
9: INSERTING TABLE OF CONTENTS

• Move the cursor under the Table of content’s heading.


• Check the checkboxes for show page number and right align page number.
• Click OK.
• To update the table any time, right click on the table and it’s almost done.

10: TITLE PAGE


Follow these steps as the mode for your work:

 Assignment Title : Arial 28 pt. italic, center


 Assignment Number : Arial 18 pt. italic, center
 Other Details : Time New Roman 14 pt, left justify
IMPORTANT NOTE:

Paragraph font size : 12

Paragraph font style : Time New Roman

Heading font size : 16

Sub-heading font size : 14

Paragraph line spacing : 1.5

Paragraph must be : Justify

11: WORD COUNT


Show the word count paragraph for the body of your assignment, because it’s important.

➢ Place your cursor on the introduction title, hold the shift key down, and got to the end of the
conclusion.
➢ And then tools > word count and record the number of words.
One of the easiest and instant ways to enable the word count dialog box is by using the keyboard shortcut
keys, press Ctrl + Shift + G key to instantly enable the word count dialog box.

12: SPELLING AND GRAMMAR CHECK

Check Spelling and Grammar all at once on the review tab, click spelling & Grammar. If word find as
potential error, the spelling and grammar dialog box will open, the spelling errors will be shows as red text
and grammatical errors will be shown as green text.

Run the word spell and sentence structure and carefully look at your work.

(Tools > Spelling & Grammar)

Ensure the Dictionary language is set to English (Australia, UK, Canada)
