3. The pressure P, volume V and temperature T of a mole of an ideal gas are related by

temperature is 300 and increasing at a rate of 0.1 and the volume is 100 and increasing
at a rate of 0.2.
4. Wheat production W in a given year depends on the average temperature T and the
annual rainfall R. Scientists estimate that the average temperature is rising at a rate of
0.15 and rainfall is decreasing at a rate of 0.1. They also estimate that, at current

0 < 𝑦 < 𝜋 and find the maximum value of 𝑢.
14. The temperature T at any point in space is 𝑇(𝑥, 𝑦, 𝑧) = 𝑘𝑥𝑦𝑧 2 where k is a constant.
Find the highest temperature on the surface of the sphere 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 = 𝑎2 .
15. If the length of the diagonal of a rectangular box is L, what is the largest possible
volume?
16. Find the minimum value of 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 when 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑦 + 𝑐𝑧 = 𝑝.
17. Find the shortest distance from the point (1, 0, -2) to the plane 𝑥 + 2𝑦 + 𝑧 = 4.
18. Find the shortest distance from origin to the surface 𝑥 − 2𝑦 − 2𝑧 = 3.
19. Find the points on the sphere 𝑥 2 + 𝑦 2 + 𝑧 2 = 4 that are closest to and farthest from the
point (3, 1, -1).
