LUBRICATION
Cummins recommends the use of good quality Low Ash SAE 40 engine oil recommended for Natural
Gas Engines. Oil Pressure specifications taken at main oil rifle with SAE 40 Oil at 100º C (212º F).
Lubricating Oil System (16V) Metric (Imperial)
Gallery Maximum at Rated Speed (1500) 4.83Bar (70psi)
Gallery Minimum at Rated Speed (1500) 3.1Bar (45psi)
Gallery Minimum Oil Pressure at Idle (900) 17.2Bar (25psi)
Maximum Oil Temperature (Gallery) 120º C (248º F)
Oil Consumption (target) 0.5g/Kwh
Oil sump Capacity 379 Litres (100 US gal)
Fuel: The exact composition of Natural Gas will vary slightly dependant on location. Cummins
recommend the use of Pipeline Quality fuel with a methane index > 70. The engine will operate
without de-rate on fuel that meets the specific criteria as specified in the operation and maintenance
manual.

REPORT
A used lube oil sample must be taken at every 250 hours (6 months), or
20% of oil change interval once established for the site. Oil change
interval can vary dependant on environmental conditions, such as:
• High or low ambient air temperatures,
• Air condition (dust levels, etc.),
• Engine application and duty cycle.
In summary, a used Lube Oil Analysis can be used to:
• Help diagnose internal engine damage,
• Monitor engine lube oil condition - Premature oil change may be
required if oils protective properties have deteriorated.
(Maximum oil change interval is dependent on Genset model. The
intervals stated in the O&M Manual is maximum even with good regular
oil sample reports).
14 QSK60G / Data & Specs / KLD / April 2010 / REV 1.01.
Used Lube Oil Analysis
• Ensure that the area that the sample is to be taken from is clean.
• Run the engine to normal operating temperature and using a suitable
container, take a sample of lube oil of at least 0.125 litres.
• Label the sample as described on next slide and submit to a reputable
local oil analysis laboratory.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Hot oil, use suitable personal protective equipment when taking samples.
Do NOT disassemble an engine for repair based only on the results of an oil
analysis. Inspect the oil filters also. If the oil filters show evidence of internal
engine damage, find the source problem and repair the damage.

• If mixing your own coolant, use distilled or deionized water or equivalent as specified in the O&M manual
and the Cummins Coolant Requirements and Specification Service Bulletin 3666132
• Change coolant and flush system every three years
• Coolant/antifreeze must comply with Cummins Engineering Standard 14603
• Coolant should be tested at least twice per year
Water treatment is essential where different metals are used (steel, aluminium, etc.) so as to
prevent galvanic corrosion. Distilled water without additives absorbs carbon dioxide from air
and promotes corrosion.
Caution: It is mandatory to treat cooling water, failure to comply invalidates warranty. The
above products provide anti-corrosion layer and antifreeze protection
