Some Statistics
Certainly, here are some literacy-related statistics from previous years in India as of my last
update in September 2021. Keep in mind that these figures might have changed since then:
- Literacy rates are generally lower among economically disadvantaged communities, but
specific data focusing on child literacy among poor populations is not as readily available in the
public domain.
- The male literacy rate was higher than the female literacy rate across the country.
5. **Government Initiatives**:
- The Right to Education Act (RTE) of 2009 aimed to provide free and compulsory education to
children between 6 and 14 years of age, focusing on marginalized and economically
disadvantaged communities.
6. **State-Level Variation**:
- Literacy rates vary significantly among states in India, with some states showing higher rates
of child literacy among poor populations than others.
For more recent and detailed statistics on child literacy among economically disadvantaged
populations in India, I recommend checking official reports from the Indian government's
Ministry of Education, Census of India, or reports from organizations such as UNESCO and
UNICEF.
