ISO/JIS2 Magnetic card encoding
The ISO or JIS2 Magnetic encoders have been designed to read and encode magnetic stripe cards
and can be mounted in most of the Evolis printers.
A printer fitted with a magnetic encoder works in exactly the same way as a basic card printer. The
magnetic encoder is a module installed either in the factory or on site by your Evolis reseller.
The Evolis encoders encode the magnetic stripes in a single pass then runs a data check for each
track. The read and write head is located under the path taken by the cards and before the print
head. The encoding sequence for a card is always carried out before the printing.
Evolis magnetic encoding kit contains a fly wheel to reduce the jitter during the process. This to
improve the reliability of encoding and decrease the number of rejected cards.

DATASHEET
ISO MAGNETIC ENCODER
ISO1 accepts up to 793 alphanumeric characters, from A to Z and from 0 to 9 along with ASCII characters between 32 and 95.
ISO2 accepts up to 403 numeric characters, from 0 to 9 along with ASCII characters between 48 and 62.
ISO3 accepts up to 1073 numeric characters, from 0 to 9 along with ASCII characters between 48 and 62.
1 Dot(s) per inch
2 Except for the “?” character
3 Including the Start, Stop and LRC characters. These characters are automatically handled by the magnetic encoder.
The ISO Magnetic encoder is compliant with the ISO/IEC 7811 standard:
• 7811-2: Magnetic stripe - low coercivity
• 7811-4: location of tracks 1 & 2
• 7811-5: location of track 3
• 7811-6: Magnetic stripe - high coercivity.

The C2 and C4 configurations relate to custom mode and are reserved for future use.
The SIPASS configuration accepts 21 characters, from 16 to 127 (ASCII characters).
Encoding via an application is used to encode magnetic stripe cards from applications under Windows (such as Word
for example). A text field enclosed within “|” and “|” characters (or some other character which the user can define) will
be interpreted as an encoding command by the print driver (e.g. |1DATA| → encodes DATA characters on stripe).
The data encryption is possible upon project request.
