Extension/Reflection Question

1. Why is proper planning important before starting roughing-in

activities in an electrical installation?

Proper planning ensures that conduit routes are efficient, wiring

meets load requirements, and safety codes are followed, reducing
the risk of rework and ensuring a smooth installation process.

2. How does proper wire sizing impact electrical installations?

Proper wire sizing prevents voltage drop, overheating, and
energy losses, ensuring the system operates safely and efficiently.

Safety Questions

1. Why is it important to perform a risk assessment before

starting roughing-in activities?

A risk assessment identifies potential hazards such as electrical

shock, fire risks, and structural obstructions, allowing for
preventive measures to be implemented.

2. Why should electrical circuits be de-energized before

performing roughing-in and wiring installations?

Working on live circuits increases the risk of electrical shock,

burns, and accidental short circuits, so power must be turned
off and verified with a tester before starting work.

Contingency Questions

1. How would you handle a situation where a conduit run is

too tight, making it difficult to pull wires through?

I would check for excessive bends, sharp edges, or

blockages in the conduit, apply pulling lubricant, and use
proper tools like fish tape or a cable puller to reduce strain
on the wires.
2. How would you handle a situation where a fellow worker
is using incorrect wire sizes for a power circuit?

I would inform them of the potential hazards

(overheating, voltage drop), refer to the electrical code
for correct sizing, and ensure the proper wires are
used before proceeding.

Infrequent Questions

1. Why is it necessary to leave extra length (slack) in

conductors inside junction boxes?

Extra length allows for future modifications, easier

terminations, and reduces strain on the connections,
preventing premature failure.

2. Why is it recommended to use conduit bushings in

roughing-in installations?

Conduit bushings prevent wire insulation damage, reduce

mechanical stress, and improve safety at conduit
terminations.

Job Roles Questions

1. Why is it important for an electrician to understand

electrical blueprints and schematics?
Electrical blueprints provide detailed layouts of wiring,
conduit runs, and connection points, ensuring installations are
done correctly and in compliance with safety standards.

2. Why is continuous learning important for an EIM NCII-

certified electrician?
Electrical technologies evolve, so ongoing training ensures knowledge
of new standards, advanced tools, and emerging best practices in
electrical installation.
